I’m pretty sure I followed this tutorial ( https://library.creativecow.net/articles/ross_shane/dvpro_hd/index.html ) for converting the footage. However, my results were different from the tutorials. The tutorial shows how to slow the 59.97 footage to 23.98 but, even thought I followed the tutorial exactly, my footage was not slowed down – it played at regular speed. So maybe that’ll work for you as well, or maybe it will slow your footage down, I dunno. It’s worth a try though.

Awesome. I guess I should have checked there first. Thanks.

  • Perfect! Mask Feather is just what I was looking for. It was the feather option in in the garbage matte properties that was giving me the problem.

Thanks for all your help Victor.

  • Makes perfect sense, that’s actually how I’ve been doing it. I was just hoping there was a non-roundabout way of doing it – like a garbage matte plugin that lets you move the effect of the points past the edge of the screen. But every plugin I’ve tried is constrained by the same limitations as Final Cut’s garbage mattes.

  • Unfortunately, the problem persist whether smoothing is applied or not. Both the smooth and feather, used independent of each other or together, cut into the frame no matter how far the points are away from the edge.

  • I’ve tried that. I’m able to move the points way past the edge of the screen but their effect has no change.

  • All good suggestions. Thanks everyone.

We eventually got it to work by:
    • Uninstalling FX Factory
    • Trashing FCP preferences
    • Trashing QuickTime preferences
    • Updating to the latest version of OS X and FCP
    • Repairing disk permissions and rebooting
    • Transferring P2 Card files from an external HD via Firewire 800

Steps we didn’t take but might help someone else:
    • Uninstalling Perian
    • Waiting up to 3 minutes for the files to populate the L&T window
    • Turning off wireless (airport) networking, and Ethernet networking

  • I plugged the camera into the computer via Firewire 400 and dragged the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt file into the L&T window.

No new software or anything like that. Everything was working last week.

I haven’t tried trashin QT Prefs or repairing permissions. I’ll try that and see if it helps.

Again, does anyone know of a program that will do the same thing as the L&T function? I’d rather be troubleshooting 1 program than FCP and QT and Perian and FX Factory and whatever else might be affecting this.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Oh man, not Perian too! I love that little plugin.

    UPDATE:
    • I ended up trashing FX Factory because I never used it
    • Trashed FCP preferences and rebooted my computer

After doing that I got one card to populate the Log and Transfer window but when I tried dragging the second card in before ingesting and, again, nothing happened.

So I’m capturing card 1 right now on its own. I’ll try uninstalling Perian and hopefully that’ll let me do more than one card at a time.

  • I do have FX Factory. That’s probably it.

I have tried rebooting but no trashing preferences yet… don’t know why, that should have been the first thing I tried.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll let you know if that works.
