  • P2 content will not show up in Log and Transfer window

Posted by Dustin Parsons on July 27, 2009 at 8:59 pm

I’m trying to ingest footage shot on the HPX170P (720pN24) but the clips will not populate the Log and Transfer window. I get no error message or anything, nothing happens.

    What I’ve done:
    • Transferred the entire P2 card (CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.txt file) from the camera to a folder on my computers hard drive (no names were changed)
    • Opened Final Cut and the Log and Transfer window
    • Dragged and dropped or imported the P2 card folder into the Log and Transfer window

I found a post about someone else having this problem before but the issue only happened with a particular version of FCP and a particular version of OS X. So I ran software update today to see if the latest ProKit update would fix the problem but it didn’t.

    FCP – 6.06
    MacPro – 10.5.7

I got it to work by transferring straight from the camera into FCP but this is not a good solution for me so any and all suggestions are appreciated.

One more question: is there any 3rd party software that can perform the same function as the Log and Transfer window? I know Raylight has something that will let me edit XML files but I would prefer to work with ProRes or DVCPRO HD.

    Thanks!

If you have the FX Factory plugins and haven’t run the update from them, it messes up the P2 import. Other than that, have you trashed your preferences, rebooted and tried again?

I do have FX Factory. That’s probably it.

I have tried rebooting but no trashing preferences yet… don’t know why, that should have been the first thing I tried.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll let you know if that works.

It’s FX Factory, and also Perian has been known to wonk up L&T.

    hi Dustin

[Dustin Parsons] “I got it to work by transferring straight from the camera into FCP “

what do you mean by that?
did you set the camera to USB device mode and and captured through it via L&T?

did your L&T worked well with P2 before?
did you install any new software recently?
Paragon installs can mess up L&T too

i have seen L&T work oddly in several cases on different systems.
these steps worked with varying success.

    1. wait. sometimes, strangely, it takes longer time than usual for L&T to load your files

    2. trash all prefs for fcp and QT including user data prefs, do a permission repair and restart your system

    3. i did have a system where nothing we tried helped and i eventually had to do a complete reinstall of OS and FCP.

    good luck

Oh man, not Perian too! I love that little plugin.

    UPDATE:
    • I ended up trashing FX Factory because I never used it
    • Trashed FCP preferences and rebooted my computer

After doing that I got one card to populate the Log and Transfer window but when I tried dragging the second card in before ingesting and, again, nothing happened.

So I’m capturing card 1 right now on its own. I’ll try uninstalling Perian and hopefully that’ll let me do more than one card at a time.

I plugged the camera into the computer via Firewire 400 and dragged the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt file into the L&T window.

No new software or anything like that. Everything was working last week.

I haven’t tried trashin QT Prefs or repairing permissions. I’ll try that and see if it helps.

Again, does anyone know of a program that will do the same thing as the L&T function? I’d rather be troubleshooting 1 program than FCP and QT and Perian and FX Factory and whatever else might be affecting this.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    [Hector berrebi] “look into MXF4MAC”

    I second MXF4mac.

Have a look at a tutorial I did here:

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/garchow_jeremy/dvc_pro_hd.php

This will skip log and transfer and allow native P2 MXF editing within FCP.

Turn off wireless (airport) networking, and then ethernet networking if needed. I have run into the issue of L&T not seeing the P2 dump folder for like 2 min with those turned on.

Don’t know what Mac you have, but you wrote:

    “What I’ve done:
    • Transferred the entire P2 card (CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.txt file) from the camera to a folder on my computers hard drive (no names were changed) ”

If you’re trying to use your main internal (system) drive the L&T behavior can be unpredictable, erratic, undependable. L&T may work fine one day and not the next as your internal drive reallocates spaces for everything else your Mac does. So if that’s the case try a FW 800 external at least.
