It still occurs even if you use HDV tapes

I’ve recently installed a fresh system with fcp5 and the problem has not reoccured so it appears i will never know what happened, but i do believe it was probably corrupted preferences.

Thanks to everyone that tried to help with the exception of gunner, who seems more interested in the futile engagement in the art of one-upmanship.

I am not dragging and dropping from the viewer to the timeline, I am repositioning clips in the timeline after they’ve been inserted (with f9 and f10 thank you very much) also the icon that appears is the overwrite icon (arrow pointing down) not the insert icon (arrow pointing right).
