October 11, 2017 at 12:36 pm in reply to: Black bars on side when rendering C4K footage

ok, I think I was writing about one particular “project” when I first started this thread, so now I’m a lot clearer on what the problem is. On all 4 of my “projects”, the c4k footage on a c4k timeline fills the source monitor correctly, except for one project (the one I originally wrote about here). On this one project, although the specs are the same (C4K footage in a C4K timeline) I get the black bars on the side in all of the pages (media, edit, color and delivery).

Is this just an odd happenstance with no solution?

Thanks for the responses. I’m still getting used to creating new nodes for adding effects. My most annoying thing is I’ll do a bunch of color correction on one node, then unthinkingly create a matte with the qualifier to work on skin tones, do a bunch of tweaks, then realize I forgot to create a new node.

For you guys who don’t know me, I’m just a hobbyist, I don’t have clients, I don’t HAVE to do things the right way, I just would like to. And I appreciate any help directed my way, always.

But you can only turn it off, you can’t remove it, right? I’m thinking in terms of making the render lighter, as per my earlier qualm 😉

I just bought this card. I’ll just find more workarounds.
    Cheers.

So there is no way to export true C4K from Resolve, something that Premiere Pro/Media Encoder do with no problem?

OR….I could do it the idiot’s way. That’s been my modus operandi my whole life ????

I set the timeline to 2048 x 1080 which is exactly half of 4096 x 2160. It runs smoothly now, no GPU problems. My question, which I actually came here to ask, is, if I set my timeline to the above setting, and choose 4096×2160 as my render resolution, am I getting a 4096 video, or is there deterioration in quality? That’s all I need to know.

btw, Chris, my back went out on me last Sunday and I’m still hobbling around, barely, hence no more samples to send you, for now.

I’ve found that the only resolution I can set my timeline to without getting that error message (unless I don’t use noise reduction or heavy plugins like Cosmo II) is 1920×1080. I can output 4096×2160 DCI, but the ratio is off, causing black bars on both the top/bottom and sides.

btw, I actually can output 4096×2160 even with those error messages, but dissolve transitions don’t dissolve, they just stutter step through the transition, which makes the render useless.

Any other suggestions for someone like me? See my specs, below.

You see my specs, below. Great box but obviously weaker than what you put together (They’re up to i9 already!?!) I can encode a 10 minute video, with some heavy plugins like Cosmo, in 10-12 minutes. Not bragging, just letting you know that, yeah, you should be getting faster renders. Keep tweaking, it’ll come.

    Oh, come on. Please? ????

Thanks for that info. I was feeling a bit guilty not using this new picture profile, but I can see that, obviously, V Log is much better for what I do.

I’ll get those other samples to you. My back has been killing me so I haven’t gone out much with the camera these last few days.
