New HLG profile in firmware 2.0 example
I’ve since read you shouldn’t use HLG unless you plan on rendering to HDR, but it does get some interesting results. On the left is graded V Log, on the right, graded HLG (which really looks bad without color correction/grading).
My skin on the V Log side is pretty much what I look like. On the HLG side, however, I look like the Snake Man from a circus sideshow, and as realistic as that looks, I am in no way that weathered. Life long sea captains don’t look that bad! Anyway, just putting this up as an example of the differences between V Log and HLG.

i was reading and seeing that HLG gets muddy in shadows, so if you use it, you need two things:
1. a mostly high key shot with almost no shadows
2. hlg is not made for skin, mostly buildings/landscape shotsits just too crunchy in dynamic range without RAW imho. vlog is the best.
also, you need a separate lut for its contrast range. I’m not going to even
bother with it because almost no one has a hlg tv. it doesn’t help dynamic
range. if anything, the muddyness makes it worse. -

Thanks for that info. I was feeling a bit guilty not using this new picture profile, but I can see that, obviously, V Log is much better for what I do.
I’ll get those other samples to you. My back has been killing me so I haven’t gone out much with the camera these last few days.
