February 22, 2018 at 2:28 pm in reply to: GH5 auto focus hack works! Now, about conforming 29.976 to 24p in Resolve. Possible?Obviously, Tero, you’ve fallen behind the times ???? There’s a new temporary fix to the GH5’s atrocious auto focus. By shooting in 30p and setting the shutter angle to 179d rather than 180d the autofocus improves by almost 100%. But before that I always shot in 180d anyway.
Now, since you’re awake over there on your side of the planet, can I use the blur effect in Resolve to get a bit closer to 24p quality blur? I just tried it, but I only added 1.2. It looks ok but it just might be my eyes deceiving me. Any tips?

Seriously, those other guys know me, I’m just a retired half blind amateur who does this for fun. I don’t have to worry about delivery formats or clients. If I still have your attention, or anybody elses, could you tell me how to get rid of the “soap opera effect” if I shoot in 30p? I know there’s a “blur” effect in Resolve that I just thought of. I’ll try it later. Is that what it’s for? If not, again, how do I tone down that “live” look in 30p?

Possible?UPDATE: I’ve since discovered that the focus fix even works on 10 bit ALL-I 400mbps files, as long as it’s in 30p, which practically brings me to the edge of C4K. I can easily live with this in the meantime.

I concur on the 32 gigs, but I can also confirm that Resolve runs with no problems on Windows 10 Home.

Yes. I originally got a 1050 when I bought my PC. I had a lot of problems with the PC so when I exchanged it I got a 1050 Ti instead. Big difference. I imagine the difference would be just as significant with the 1080.

I hope you get your problem sorted out. Good luck!

I’ll use this when doing my one man show, and C4K 24p when I shoot the great American film classic (which will probably be never if I don’t start making connections!)

Check my specs, below. Nowhere near what you’re looking at, and it handled Resolve and everything I threw at it up until the GH5 firmware update and 400mbps ALL-I codec video files.

February 20, 2018 at 9:22 pm in reply to: GH5 auto focus hack works! Now, about conforming 29.976 to 24p in Resolve. Possible? Thanks, Brent. I did notice that, for some reason, V Log footage shot at 29.976 and 8 bit is a lot easier to color correct, for some reason. It looks kind of video-y, which I hate, but it also looks more true to life color wise. Now I’m really torn. I guess if I ever put together an honest to goodness film short, I’ll shoot C4K. In the meantime, doing my usual one man band thing, the NTSC 30p 8 bit route is the way to go.
Thanks for at least confirming that there’s no point in trying to conform 30p to 24p.
