I agree. While I’d love to have the latest/greatest/best gear of all types, I have to continually balance price and performance, and ultimately the value to the customer. This is probably especially true in the corporate/industrial work where I make most of my money. With all gear, you have to know what it does and doesn’t do, and understand how to get the most from it to be able to deliver what the customer needs.
Would I like to mix on a $1000 pair of monitors (or $2K, or $10)? Of course. Do they sound better than the KRK 5s? Absolutely. But can I do a perfectly credible job for my clients on these $300/pair monitors? Yes.
