February 16, 2009 at 7:45 pm in reply to: Only get audio on Log & Transfer – no pictureAnd ya’know, Steve, that’s exactly what I thought.
However, I saw a slew of red errors all stating something along the lines of, “Unable to transfer ‘whatever’,” or “File ‘xyz’ didn’t copy properly.”
So, something didn’t happen the way it was supposed to. I just need to take a moment, away from the eyes of any client, and figure out what that was.

February 16, 2009 at 7:42 am in reply to: Only get audio on Log & Transfer – no pictureThanks, Jeremy. That’s what I thought at first, but it was there. The full file size transferred.
He answered some questions I posed in an email and said he was unable to open the file in Log & Transfer. Which is odd, since earlier he said he had audio but no video…
As for Shotput Pro, I’ve got it. But the first time I used it (a couple months ago) it didn’t work correctly and showed several errors, so I went back to my manual system. I need to play with that a little bit to be sure I know how to use it properly – it’s apparently not as intuitive as I thought.
In any case, I’ll just shoot my client a couple data DVD’s.
Thanks again,

Those numbers don’t relate to the battery strength – they tell you how much shooting time you have left on your P2 cards or tape.

Very well put, Dave.
Christopher Wright is the most vocal proponent of the Firestore I’ve read. For most others, we love our P2 cards – especially as the size increases.
Since you’ve already spent the money, Rachel, speak to Chris about the issues you’re having. Perhaps he knows some solutions. If not, you’re welcome to join us in P2 Card Land… 😉

Ahhh… The PAL version. I can’t help you, but perhaps someone else here can. Did you also post this in the Adobe Premiere forum? Those are the users who would really know the capabilities of the program.

This sounds more like a question for the Adobe Premier forum, but in case someone here knows the answer, perhaps a little more detail would help: I’m not familiar with P2N. Which camera are you using? Do you mean 24PN? (if not, pardon my ignorance)
As for exporting files, does your client want to simply view the footage or does he/she want to edit it further?

That’s great to know. I’m still making one copy, confirming the exact amount of bytes match, and then making a second copy. It’d be nice to “automate” things a little better.

Yes, you can offload the files directly from the camera via firewire. The downside is that your camera is down for that duration.
What I do is remove one of the cards from the camera when it’s full. I then pop it into my Mac PowerBook G4 (using the PCMCIA slot – though you could just as easily use a Dual Adapter with a newer MacBook Pro) and transfer the footage to a firewire drive while I shoot out the second card. The process then repeats.

[brandan dennehy] “Is it possible to use a couple 1tb 7200 standard hard drives simply as storage devices?”
Yes. If I’m shooting for myself, I use 2 LaCie 500GB FW800 drives (1 copy onto each drive).
If I’m shooting for a client, I use their drive as the primary and then back up to one of mine as a safety. That’s actually saved them on one or two occasions.

I, too, agree with everything that’s been said.
Go back about 7 months or so in these archives and see the issues people were running into with the Firestore.
And in a few months you should be able to buy 64GB P2 cards – so not much need for anything else.
