Wow shane, thanks for the information. The more things that cleared up, the deeper down the hole I go in not understanding, but I want to. I’m starting to see what your saying, but I have a few question for you if you don’t mind.
So, with the XH-A1, I’ll be capturing by the component which feeds 422, then if I capture it using the regular ProRes 422 (not proxy or lt), it will have regular 422 color sampling correct? And for green screen work, this is worth the extra step rather than capturing HDV via camera firewire…right? And if I do capture the component signal to the ProRes 422, I will be ok bandwidth wise scratching it to fw800, correct?

One other question, if capturing component from XH-A1 at 422, is it worth it to try and upgrade the camera to one that has HD-SDI out? From what I understand, at that point, it’s analog vs. digital. So if any suggestions on camera under 5K-6K would be nice.

Took me a few times to read it. I did see it when I searched but for some reason I had to re-read it to understand it. Man it’s getting late :/ Thank you though.

I’ve got another question if you don’t mind. I’m looking at using Matrox MXO2 LE or Motu HDX-SDI, probably Motu because I hear the LE doesn’t support 1080p only 1080PsF. Anyways, that will use up the expresscard slot leaving only the FW800. Recording uncompressed proress 422, will the fw800 have enough bandwidth? I’ve read contradicting things in these forums. I wish macbok pro’s had dedicated eSata, that’d be sweet.

The reason I’m having to do this is because it is for a professional website. It has nothing to do with modeling. She’s a type of insurance agent, and I know that the corporate headquarters of her agency would not be pleased with the way the video currently looks. I’m not trying to start an argument about morality, that has nothing to do with it. I’m just trying to make sure both she and I don’t get chewed out by her cooperate headquarters and by my employer.

  • We were having the same problems and we did a roll back in windows 7 to 11/11/09 and everything works fine now. As you can probably tell, we aren’t going to be updating our machines anytime soon now that we know it is a windows update that breaks it. I have to say, bravo to Microsoft and especially for Adobe. I don’t understand how these multi-million dollar companies have things like this slip through. Sorry if this comes across as a rant, but I lost 2 weeks of productivity and now I’m back logged with tons of videos to edit. Not fun.

I’m having the same problem and nothing seems to work. The difference for me is that I have no 3rd party plug-ins and it just started about 1 week ago not working. Just in case, where are the plugins located?

Well I’ve sort of figured it out. I used the CC Bender, not quite sure what that is meant for, but I set the bottom and top points around the hump and was able to shift his arm to create a clean level shoulder look for both shoulders and I’m impressed. It worked well. But when I get in to work on monday I’m going to try the above that was mentioned using liquify and the mesh. This is all new stuff to me and I’m very excited to continue use AE. Right now all we use it for is the Keylight plugin basically. I’m trying to push to use some graphics and whatnot w/ the higher ups. Make some cool intro videos and whatnot. Any good books or video series that I could buy or online lessons free or not, just anything to help me continue to learn the wonderful world of After Effects?

I really wish I could have gotten a Mac but I didn’t have that much pull here at work when they were deciding on a computer for editing. We don’t really didn’t do editing for this so we really didn’t know what kind of setup to get but now we are starting to regret the stuff we got as I learn more and more. Anyways, could you possibly recommend a camera under 5,000 or so that can capture using a good codec for AE?

Hey Dave, thanks for the response. I replied to a post of yours in a different thread I made a little while ago, but since you seem to be on the prowl in these forums, I was wondering if you could maybe answer some questions I have about HDV and keying. I’ve just copied and pasted this from the other thread I posted.

You talk about converting the format. I have a few more questions if you don’t mind answering them. So, I’m using a Canon XH-A1 and we use firewire connection to record using premiere pro. Now, is there a different codec/format I can use in premiere pro to capture for better editing and chroma keying, or do I just need to convert it after being capture? If needing to convert, can you recommend a codec/format to use and program to use?
