Thanks Mike. What I was wondering was when I right click on my mouse, should I be getting a “paste” option – similiar to if I am focused on a particular clip instance and right click on the mouse, I get a “copy” option. If I choose copy and the CTI is at a different location, I can never get the right Click “paste” option to open – and I was wondering if that was normal or if something wasn’t working right.
Generally, if one can get a copy option with the right click function, they can get a paste with it also.
I understand the pasteing with the Ctrl+V or Menu/Edit/Paste – I was just wondering about the right click paste option not working on my system.

Thanks – very helpful.
I do think the trim project really hung up as I let it run for quite a while – but I can always try it again just to see.
Thanks again.

I am just trying to understand this program – and like other programs – I am sure you can do something 2 or 3 different ways – but it sure is helpful to get feedback and disucss it. Thanks. Who knows – maybe there is even a better way !

Thanks – I think you are right on and it makes sense.
While waiting for an answer – I tried this and it worked –
click on video clip on timeline
click Reveal in Project
Drag the revealed clip from project to an open track on the tmeline, unlink it, and delete the video leaving only audio part
Re-Link the video and remaining audio
right click on time code in the lower right of clip (sync code) and choose Move Into Sync
unlink clips
trim to fit
re link clipsNow I am not sure which one would be the better choice – but I am starting to understand this a bit. Do you think one is better than the other ?

Thanks Vincent. Couple questions
When you say if the clips are on the timeline, they are already in the project – I assume you are referring to the master clip (1 hr) and not the individual clip instances that I sent to the timeline from the souce window. I didn’t really create subclips – I just sent the instances straight to the timeline from the source window.
Using the /project/project_manager process seems to create additional media – which is not what I was trying to do – and for some reason the process hung up at about 90% on my computer.
B4 I frustrate you too much – I am learning PP coming from another NLE. That system treated metadata on the timeline the same as it did in the bins – so if it was on the timeline, it could be copied anyplace.
The editing workflow I am coming from was to take a long clip, break it into segments and broll by sending it to the timeline, then keeping what you wanted on the timeline and moving or copying clips to be used later or as broll or whatever back to a bin. It was a fast way of going through a long clip and dividing it up without having to name all the clips and save them individually.
So in trying to learn PP, I was trying the same process – taking a large clip that was imported into a bin), sending instances of it to the timeline and then trying to put those references to instances I want to keep but not use in that particular sequence back into a bin.
I take it this might not be a good workflow for PP.

When editing a clip in the source window, is there a way of turning off 1 channel of audio – or is it a “all channels” or “none” option for the sound when working in the source window ?

quick question – I noticed that according to a prior response to this thread that if you break out the audio to mono the process……
“basically prevents editing the clip in the source window and makes it difficult to edit in the timeline as the Lift and Extract commands only work on selected tracks and one can have only one audio track selected.”
Has there been improvements in CS3 ?
I was hoping to be able to turn off either channel A or B (instead of all the audio) while I edit in the source window – but haven’t seen the either or option.

Thanks – good suggestion – that’s doable and in the process. I thought I might use this opportunity to learn my editing software better – but don’t know if it’s worth the time or effort. I will post on Audition site.

you can sync anytime you want – just do it using the wave format of the audio – almost always easy to find a sync point.
