  • syncing audio to deleted audio track

I have media I captured of a singer that I sent an instance to the timeline via source window. I then deleted the audio and laid a different audio track, and also inserted a bunch of other video.

For a small portion of the video in the middle of the piece, I want to fade in the singer’s original sound track. The singer’s video track is not contiguous from the beginning.

What is the best way to do lay a synced audio track of this short piece of video ?

I hope I understood well because this is a long one, and there may be an easier way :-))

So, if the original audio track is what you are looking for, and if it was originally in sync with the video, you can double click on the video clip, that will send it to the source window. Make notes of your IN and OUT points in the source window, or copy and paste in notepad.
Then double click on that corresponding footage in the project manager to send it to the source window. Use the previous in and out points to add them on this new clip, set the view to audio only, and match the in point of this clip to the video clip in the timeline, that should give you sync.

Thanks – I think you are right on and it makes sense.

While waiting for an answer – I tried this and it worked –

click on video clip on timeline
    click Reveal in Project
Drag the revealed clip from project to an open track on the tmeline, unlink it, and delete the video leaving only audio part
Re-Link the video and remaining audio
right click on time code in the lower right of clip (sync code) and choose Move Into Sync
    unlink clips
    trim to fit
    re link clips

Now I am not sure which one would be the better choice – but I am starting to understand this a bit. Do you think one is better than the other ?

I like your method. That might even be faster. I’m just used to my old P 1.5 workflow and never even thought about the sync feature.

I am just trying to understand this program – and like other programs – I am sure you can do something 2 or 3 different ways – but it sure is helpful to get feedback and disucss it. Thanks. Who knows – maybe there is even a better way !
