I was faced with this recently.

Not one button, but try this:

    – Make sure “show used media ranges” is on
    – select the event(s) in the browser where your media is
    – click in the search bar, then click the icon next to it (it’s called Toggle Filter HUD)
    – Add the filter “Used”
    – now with what’s left, in column view arrange by content created / name / whatever else will set the in chronological order
    – select all
    – append edit (e)

  • I have a flat ultra wide and it’s fabulous to have such horizontal space along a timeline. Shortly after I bought it the curved version came out. It occurred to me that the curve would be nice in that in the extreme left and right on the screen is far from your eyes and the small icons and menu options may be easier to see on a curved screen. Just something you may want to consider if you haven’t already.

It sounds to me (could be wrong) that you are introducing Optical Flow unnecessarily. Try this:

    1. Create a new 29.97 timeline (be sure to NOT use automatic settings or the moment you bring in 60p footage the timeline will change to 60p)
    2. Drop in the 60p footage
    3. Select it and choose Modify->Retime->Automatic Speed. This used to be known as Conform.

That will give you perfectly smooth footage because it is simply playing back at a slower rate than it was shot.

  • It’s called “Select Above” and Select below.

I’m actually wondering if there is an equivalent for select left and select right..

You might want to take a few minutes to watch this – it’s a tutorial I made a few years ago and will give you an idea of the sort of performance that you can expect.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkd0l7PtzOg

Note that although the stills are jpeg and that they are not reduced in size at all (around 5k x 3k pixels)

I’ll be updating the for 10.3 shortly, but principle is the same.

Try AnyVideo Converter HD from the App Store. In the Custom section you should see a WMV setting that can be customised.

August 14, 2016 at 11:25 pm in reply to: Play Back Sticking

I experienced this and it was fixed by closing the information panel. This prevents the need for FCPX to load the information of the new clip into the panel every time you move around the playhead which causes an almost imperceptible delay but can make the playhead feel “Sticky”.

    I hope that helps 🙂

  • Just chiming in that I have seen this behaviour in the past exporting Prores to send to Motion. 100% definitely choosing no audio, audio comes out anyway. Never nailed down a reason or a fix.
