Thanks again for your responses. I learned that doing a reset of Vegas Pro 17 (including deleting all cashed application data) would be best – but still, Vegas crashes (freezes) almost immediately.
CORRECTION TO FIRST POST: Windows does NOT crash when Vegas crashes. All other Windows programs and functions continue to work perfectly. When Vegas freezes, the Trim Event icon always appears (though I hadn’t used that function since opening Vegas), and it can be moved on the Vegas screen. But it doesn’t do anything, and all other functions in Vegas are frozen (including other choices on the tool bar).
Again, the Vegas crash/freeze occurs within a minute or two after opening a new or existing project, regardless of the action – it’s can be as simple as loading a clip into the Trim window.
Thanks again for any ideas. I’ve posted this the Magix, and am awaiting a reply.

Thanks for your quick reply. I don’t have Vegasaur. Unfortunately, import/export preferences is only available on Vegas Pro 18 onwards. Rather than spend $100 on Vegasaur, I’ll get the Vegas 19 upgrade for $249. — And I’ll re-enter the preferences manually this time – hopefully the last time!

Hi
On Vegas 17, the solution for me was to uninstall Security update KB5001330 (the update of April 14), and I’m back in business. In my case, I couldn’t open any project that included 5.1 surround sound, and couldn’t drop such a file into a new project. When I converted a clip to stereo, it worked fine – but of course I couldn’t convert five years’ of 5.1 clips.
The update uninstall is only required on 17 – There was no conflict with the update when I tried on 16.5 and earlier version.
However – Assuming that I had to prevent Windows from automatically updating again (in order to automatically replace the missing update), I did so, using the standard maximum pause (35 days). Is there any way to allow future updates to load, without loading the KB5001330? It probably isn’t a good idea to permanently stop getting all updates.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much for checking. I’m using a Bella 4200 keyboard, and have just now discovered that the keyboard’s control knob provides steady slow motion movement of the cursor across the Pan/Crop window. But I haven’t yet figured out how to make it stop! I’ll keep trying, a post an answer in case anyone else may be interested. Thanks again.

Additional info on previous: What I’m trying to do is to hit the space bar (or play or return) to start and stop the movement of the cursor inside the Event Pan/Crop window. The synch button only ties it to the cursor on the event timeline. My only recourse seems to be to drag the cursor in the Event Pan/Crop window manually to determine the placement of the edit points — A very rough an ragged way to do it. Any ideas?

Thanks for your speedy reply. How do I enable the sync cursor button? Clicking it either way has no effect on enabling cursor movement. Thank you for any help.
