In that case, Bill had the right answer earlier in this thread. Though I’d use the Crop tool for the slight zoom you’re looking for (Crop – Ken Burns).

You might also set the Spatial Conform to None on your first image, and then set your initial position and scale. Then when you Copy / Paste Attributes to the rest of the images, you’ll select Scale, Position, and Spatial Conform (and also Crop if you’re using that for your ‘Ken Burns’ zoom in).

Are all of the images the same size / ppi?

You may also want to consider Thunderbolt-connected storage… if you’re using an older LaCie drive with USB 2.0 or FireWire800. Upgrading the bandwidth of your external storage will help quite a lot as well.

Curious… what happens if you apply a Color effect to one of those clips on the laptop?

Do you see the values entered on the original machine? Additionally, what happens if you then disable it?

I must say, quite an eye-opener.

I’m working on a project that was shot with a C300 and the footage looked like it needed help… then I found Pixel Film’s LUT Loader (free plugin for FCPX) and went looking for the .cube formats to try out.

You could, alternatively, remove the clip from your library and ‘brute force’ your way to 00:00:00 by deleting the timecode track from the file directly in QT Pro… not that you should, necessarily, but it would get you there.

For Cmd + E to work properly, you need to set a default in FCPX prefs…

Go to Preferences -> Destinations and right-click on Master File, then select “Make Default”

Once you do that, cmd + E will bring up the export panel.

Sounds messy, I know, but is really pretty quick. 2 button presses and I’m in the booth (edit bay isn’t quiet enough for my taste – air handler, computer fans, drives, etc.)

First rig was a PL20 into a tube pre straight into a Quadra 840AV – used SoundEdit 16. An entire year’s worth of full-time VO, with scripts for a single client’s custom software package. I got into the habit of normalizing pretty much everything due to the crappy nature of the playback hardware.

Anyway, thought I’d share…

For mono VO, here’s my workflow:
– AT4047 mic into Joe Meek Studio Channel VC1Q
– Joe Meek through mixer, mix out to computer through Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
– record direct into Sound Studio (mono, 16/48 files)
– trim tops / tails, save to RAID
– drag & drop output files to Levelator
– import result into FCPX

These files sound great, and peak right at -6 dB. I have the mic set w/no rolloff, VC1Q has mild EQ and compression, mixer is just pass-through. I’ll do some minor tweaking on the Joe Meek if someone else is in the booth.
