Hello Tim,
Thanks for the reply, but I’m not sure where else to go for help. I didn’t see anything similar to my situation on the Tolis knowledge base, and tech support through Tolis is on the expensive side. I was not involved in the purchase, installation or setup of this archiving system, but backup and restores have become part of my responsibilities so I’ve been going through on the job training with this issue.
As far as the problem at hand, if I understand the library concept correctly, why would the system have all the information as to what tape the data is on, load that tape from the correct slot to a drive, recognize the tape in the drive, then “change its mind” to say it can’t find the correct tape?
If it is a failed library, any suggestions for a resolution?

While researching another issue I came across this thread and thought I’d toss my $.02. I had a similar problem for a few weeks and tested, reseated, and updated all my graphics components. After still no luck I grasped at the final straw of replacing my aftermarket SSD system drive. I cloned it to a standard platter hard drive, switched it out and haven’t had a problem since, which has been a few months now.
I’m running an early 2008 MacPro, 10.9.5, with an NVIDIA GeForce 285.

As I was prepping to do a clean install a co-worker told me she was having the same problem. Eventually four of us had the same thing happen. Thus my suspicion turns more towards our RAID. Restarts fix the problem for a few hours but it always returns.

One thing to check is the output mode on video preview in preferences. Chances are the system has a video card by BlackMagic or Aja. Make sure it’s outputting the correct format, NTSC, 720p, 1080i, etc. for your comp. If it’s not, AE can get slow trying to make the conversion happen in real time.
