This is great. I was assuming the speeds were not there yet w/out proxy, just wasn’t sure. I’ve used edit share before, it just wasn’t viable for us. The EVO has been great for for the past few years so I’m leaning that way again. I do like the tape backup built into the QNAP. I wish it had a 20 Gb ethernet card as uplink so we could come from a switch.

Just saw Bob Zelin’s post on QNAP. I think maybe I’ll look into this. I’ll need initially 4 Mac (local) and 4 Mixed platform
remote (india).

Thanks for the reply. The thing I think that is not mentioned is that a separate metadata network is still needed. So another “private” switch to invest in and more cables bundled up.
What I like is that you don’t need a dedicated machine for a metadata controller and you can use any SAN software. Also that they have made it so simple to configure and setup.
The only other option is edit share with 10 gig (one cable- love it) but it is convoluted with software and client software/logins. The price is still steep as well.

Thanks, We are trying to eliminate the the deck portion for capture due to noise wear and tear and many other usage issues.
Here is our current config which we want to change.
HDX900 set to 108024pA out fw400 to Macbook Pro capturing DVCPRoHD with 2:3:3:2 pulldown to FCP.
The same HDX900 out HDSDI thru a AJ-HD1400 to another Macbook Pro for compositing reference with Conduit live.
