[David Roth Weiss] “Ouch! The news is not encouraging for many Don. But, what’s another grand or two down the drain for another new I/O device? Right?”

Or $695 from BMD……. I sure would rather not go there. I love AJA. Great products, and stellar tech support. I have to believe they would not do this just to sell more cards. That would be a huge black mark against one of my favorite companies on the planet.

Went to the AJA website to download the drivers, saw that the latest driver for LHe was 2 months old, and the latest for LHi was today. Called AJA support and at first they did not realize this was the case, but then confirmed that only Kona 3, Lhi and Lhe plus were supported. I then called AJA sales, and was told it was due to technical limitation of the Lhe card. This was all done after I posted on the Cow.
I am very disappointed, and if there is a workaround I sure would like to know.

    Bill,
I LOVE, editing in FCPX, but there is no way in the world that you or anybody else would convince me that Randy and crew thought the software was ready to be released when it was. They were behind the power curb getting this done and the whole editing world was clamoring for something……. The highest levels of management found out about Avid dominating the Final Cut SuperMeet, and because it wasn’t a flagship product where Steve would present it, It was done in a very sloppy manner.
Now I admit this is a lot of conjecture, but a good percentage of the stuff on this forum is.
In the past couple of days after reading this thread, I think one of the reasons they killed all support of 7, was the need for an “all hands on deck” emergency emphasis on bug fixes and feature upgrades to get X where it needs to be. IMHO

If everybody on this forum would look at FCPX for what it really is, I think we could all sleep easier at night.

FCPX was / is a totally different but completely unfinished NLE that was pushed out the door at least a year early, by a leadership style, that wanted to upstage a competitor at a trade show.

When the big Q1 release comes out, I would suspect we will have a much better understanding of what X is supposed to be. I also suspect there will be a lot more than just external monitoring and multicam, out by the end of the year.
The actions of Apple in February, April, and June, hurt a lot of people, but all you have to do is read the biography to understand what;s going on. Hopefully FCPX will mature into what the NLE it shows the potential to be. If not well….

I do not want to speak evil of the dead, but I finished the biography last night, and the whole shooting match; introduction, killing off of 7, and even the simplified UI all smacks of Jobs way of doing things. Now I like X, I think it has potential, BUT (cue the dream sequence effect) wouldn’t it be neat if with the new management, they released an FCP 8 that’s sitting on the shelf, and continued development of X!

November 17, 2011 at 4:54 pm in reply to: Quick Poll. So what’s your decision?

Using the FCPX, PPro 5.5. and the Avid 5.5 trial, I came to the conclusion that we didn’t know how good we had it with FCP 7. If my job situation does not force me to switch to a PC platform, I am going to run as a FCP 7/X user. I have a new appreciation for 7 and a great love for X, though to be truly useful to me it needs multicam, and video out.

My big concern at this point is that when FCPX finally does talk to the AJA cards, it won’t be usable to to my 3 year old Kona Lhe. This happened with MC 6.0, and could happen with FCPX,

If I do go to a PC workflow, I would push hard with the powers that be for a Avid, BMD/AJA system.

November 15, 2011 at 6:17 pm in reply to: If FCPX isn’t really for Pros, who is it for?

I think that FCPX was released before it was ready, and Apple knew it, but because of pressure from the outside and inside, pushed forward with a good program that wasn’t “done”. if you are cooking something great in the oven, but you take it out early, (because people are clamoring for food) it’s not going to get rave reviews, some people won’t eat it, but some will see the potential, and say to the chef, put it back in the oven for a while.

The majority of the FCP user base was hungry for a solid 64 bit update that looked and acted like the FCP we all know and love. Apple, either because of panic, ego or some combination of both, seeing that Avid, and Adobe were getting all the attention, pushed the product out before it was ready.

Bottom line, I think Apple has lost some ground (users) to Adobe and Avid, but in the end, will develop X (or XI ) into something really useful for all.
    IMHO

  • Since the flooding in Thailand, affects primarily the maker of 80% of the market’ drive motors, will this drive both computer manufacturers, and consumers towards a faster adaptation of SSD’s?
Supposedly the tsunami was a catalyst for program delivery to migrate to a file based workflow when the Sony plant making HDcam SR tapes was put offline.
