What you may be missing is that for a Project to convert to 10.1 it must be active.
If you use Event Manager X to ‘activate’ Final Cut Events and Projects then the 10.1 update will find active Events and Projects and put them into a single Library. The Projects will then be listed in the upper left.
However, anything in the ‘Hidden’ folders that EMX (or you) create will not be converted.
So, just make sure the Projects you want are in the Final Cut Projects folder when doing the conversion. It’s not too late to bring the Projects into 10.1. I don’t have FCPX open right now but if you activate Projects only then Final Cut may ask you which Library you want to put them in. If not, once converted its easy to just move Projects into any mounted Library.

Yes about the tutorials that cropped up and one of them encouraged the viewer not to import anything into the Library; to leave all media external. Of course that doesn’t stop that folder of external media being in the same folder with the Library file. Move the enclosing folder and you move everything. This is what I’ve adopted and, so far, its working well for me. If that library and project files needed to travel then simply copying the enclosing folder will bring everything. That is, if you’ve been careful to organize your media to always be in the enclosing folder. And, watch out that you are also traveling with a ZIP file of your Motion Templates folder in case you used a home-grown effect in your project.

Another artifact of using a project generated from XML that was imported. When idle, the counter within the circle next to the timecode window in the center of the screen would go wild. Constantly flashing what appeared to be random numbers.
I created a new Project, selected everything in the timeline of the XML-generated Project and pasted everything into the new, empty, project.
All seems to be fine with the project now.
As for the suggestions that I use a copy of the project file (I’m assuming you mean the file ‘CurrentVersion.fcpproject in the Backups folder?) I will try that. If that’s not the file you mean, let me know.

By deleting the Preferences using Preference Manager Final Cut forgets its recent list of opened Libraries. Just File > Open and browse to the Library you want. Am I missing something?

I wasn’t clear about the purpose of the program but that didn’t stop me from experimenting with it! 🙂
But, I do a lot of subtitling at work. I take an HD clip and put it into an SD timeline and move the clip to the top of the frame. This leaves me a black area underneath where I can add three lines of subtitle text. This text, of course, is static.
I’ve not found a good workflow in Final Cut Pro X for this. Subtitling is the only thing I still use the legacy Final Cut Pro 7 for. in 7, if the subtitle is in English, I can put the entire script in one text object and simply bubble the next three lines to the top and lay into the timeline. Careful that I’m not making the timeline clip active but only sourcing from the version that’s not linked to the clips in the timeline, I can then fly with laying in, play until those three lines are spoken, then bubble the next three lines to the top and lay in. If the subtitle language is not English, then I lay in from an XCEL spreadsheet cell with a copy past for each three-line section.
Can your app enable me to do this as fast in X?

I have intensely studied and used 10.1 and think its great. Having said that I found a bug in exported XML of a Project. When bringing in that XML, all Position keyframes that had been set to ‘Linear’ fall back to their default setting of ‘Smooth’. This caused me about two hours of work resetting 34 titles that would fly in but would continue THROUGH the scened and fly back to the next keyframe only to continue the path off the screen! This bug has been confirmed with another user.
Then, while working in the XML import version of my Project a few random titles would seem to disappear. They were there but were the color of the background and their text went back to default. It was like Whack-A-Mole. Only one needed fixing. I would fix that. Then, two others needed fixing but the rest were OK. Fixed those. Then a check revealed that two or three others needed fixing.
Previously, the titles were just fine for a number of hours of editing. The problem only showed up for me after exporting the XML and working on the project on another computer in another location. No one has so far been able to confirm that it’s happening to them so it might be something unique to me.
The XML issues aside there are many things to like about the 10.1 update once you understand the new media management thinking. It’s my opinion that the new way of managing media is MUCH MUCH better!

I launched Preference Manager just yesterday to delete preferences of FCPX 10.1. Preference Manager alerted me that there was a new version available so I updated it before deleting preferences. I had no issues with 10.1 after using Preference Manager to delete its preferences.

In the 10.1 update holding the OPTION-COMMAND-and tapping the UP ARROW will move multiple selected clips and leave a gap clip in their place. The multiple clips (if adjacent) will become a secondary storyline.
I have no way of checking at this point but I believe I was able to move multiple clips before using this method. I think the 10.1 update only added that the multiple clips are now joined as a secondary storyline.

I took an existing project and de-selected all roles except for Titles and exported that XML. Used your tool and set the Target Directory and gave it a name. Got the XML files about ‘single’ and ‘frame’. Opened the frame one in X. Got a single frame. Exported as PNG sequence. Got a folder with a single PNG in it. Opened the frame XML in X and got 34 unconnected clips. None of which were found in that folder created by your tool. Please let me know where I’m going wrong. Thank you.
