UPDATE: Sorry, I’ve just seen the difference in the UI, please excuse me, I’ve just gone thru an failing state HDD (BBall Specialist Drive) to an SSD and I’ve just noticed the great update to Final Cut Pro X’s new workflow and thank Word, we now have a pinch zoom timeline again ala FCP7. There’s simply an updated projects folder where the assets exclusively only were, no more bottom left business.

My apologies, bit thick right now.

    Hi Hi

I’ve updated all, however, I kept my old projects since it seemed to only update the events, all the timelines are gone, however, like I typed, I’ve saved them.

So new on my external the folder says, Old Projects and Events, they are all there, the events are inside FCPX 10.1 no projects,

What is the simplest way to restore some of the old projects so I can use the timelines again?
All the media for the Events are accessible etc, so far, and relinking them won’t be a problem, just restoring the Projects are an issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated, the screenshot is my external drive, and the new projects are below it, looking like this,

All of your projects should have been converted and placed into an event called “Updated Projects”.

From there, you can move them back into whichever event you’d like to.

If you’ve checked and are sure you don’t have the updated projects in your event, you can create a “Final Cut Projects” folder on your drive and put your old project folders in there and try to update them again (File / Update Projects and Events”.

What you may be missing is that for a Project to convert to 10.1 it must be active.

If you use Event Manager X to ‘activate’ Final Cut Events and Projects then the 10.1 update will find active Events and Projects and put them into a single Library. The Projects will then be listed in the upper left.

However, anything in the ‘Hidden’ folders that EMX (or you) create will not be converted.

So, just make sure the Projects you want are in the Final Cut Projects folder when doing the conversion. It’s not too late to bring the Projects into 10.1. I don’t have FCPX open right now but if you activate Projects only then Final Cut may ask you which Library you want to put them in. If not, once converted its easy to just move Projects into any mounted Library.
