Still looks as if it was shot by an amateur camera. There was too much glare, badly back lit, contrasty, muddy dark areas, I could go on. Look at “Schindler’s List” for good B & W cinematography.

May 16, 2014 at 3:49 am in reply to: 10.9.3 killed my three monitor setup on 2013 Mac ProIf the hDMI cable is in, it defaults to that display and one other…it won’t use two Dvi displays now, so I unplug the HDMI, restart and I have the two DVI but no HDMI. The settings and resolutions and unaffected. I am going to use the Time Machine and restore my system to 10.9.2

I agree with you on this point. With cameras and of course NLE’s, tech engineers seem to be doing the designing from a “tech” standpoint, rather than a functioning film/broadcast/ industry standpoint. The most obvious example of this was of course Apples’ renaming of industry standard conventions in FCPX (no more bins, timelines, etc) I suspect this is the reason why the Arri Alexa was adopted so widely by the ultra conservative film industry as Arriflex has been around for many many years and many many films.
Will form top function?

I don’t know. Opening Avid and CC now is like being Marty McFly and going back to the 90’s with the workflow and UI. I admit FCPX was buggy, etc at first, but the last few updates have been great and my workflow has really taken off. We edit commercials, web videos, broadcast TV, feature length documentaries, and even some multi- cam, all HD 1080i and I can say post has never been quicker and less painless.
Okay, so you have to learn a bit of new terminology, this is good for the brain, so who is complaining. Also, having spoken several times with the FCPX project manager, Apple is 100% committed to the pro users. And, add the new Mac Pro to this equation, what a combo for productivity.
The future IS here now.

As TV’s Jay Pritchard said “I like to watch a sport where something happens”.

I have the 6 core with 32GBS of ram and the D 700’s, [aid just under 5K and for video editing with a laCie big 2 raid setup, I don’t see how anything could be faster. GO with the 700’s and 32 GB.

Hopefully’14 will be better than’13 which was a lousy year. Since we are a small shop and have to get every job ourselves, there is the ongoing effect of the “talking head” or “animation stick figure” videos which are out there and sometimes the client wants for little or nothing.
2014 seems to be a bit better with us doing some crowd funding videos and since we do a lot of political work, 14 is looking like a good year for candidates and measures.
Now if I could only get my Mac Pro delivered… -

October 21, 2013 at 10:15 pm in reply to: FCPX is not used by professionals and only suitable for editing home movies! Not professional…let’s see, we got a California State Senator, California State Assembly member,
US Congressional candidate and numerous California county Supervisors elected using FCPX, several state wide initiatives passed, as well as several multi-million dollar bond issues passed, again all using ONLY FCPX.If these candidates, municipalities and the state of California trust FCPX with their respective fates and $, I believe we can deduce that it is a pro app.
