Thanks much for your help – it makes all the difference in a community like this.

points. I’m trying to blur the background of an interview, and am having trouble avoiding the “person is glowing” look that comes with trying to blur the background. This is a strong option though – thanks for taking the time to share it. -
Got it – I got it to work after shutting down FCP and my computer.
works well! Thanks again!Donny

Hi Nick,
Thanks for sharing this technique – it all works great – and I LOVE how you’re getting a “great sampling” of all the footage of the piece – my problem is – I’m doing all the steps – and then at the end – when I try to export an image sequence it says “general error”. I can export other timelines and .mov’s as image sequences – but for some reason FCP (7) doesn’t want to let me export this particular sequence (or .mov – I tried exporting the sequence as an .mov – and brought that back into FCP – to no avail.) so it says “General Error.”

Hi – I’m plopping this question down in this thread – because I think you guys may know what I’m talking about sooner than starting a fresh thread. I’m looking to create a mosaic – of a LOT of images – where I take that batch of images and animate them to look like a company logo I’m making a video for.
Here’s the rub, and it has two parts. Part 1 – on my test run – I had to find like 1,200 random images in folders on my computer to get the mosaic to come out looking good – but I don’t have the budget to pull 1200 stills from my clients video to make this mosaic. (I think that could take DAYS)
I’m using Macosaix – and it lets you pull images from google images, or flickr – so I may be able to use that technique to gather enough images to make the mosaic…BUT
I want for at least 20 of the images – to be IMAGES FROM THE CLIENT – you know – the images that happen to show up during the mosaic animation to where you can see what they are – I want THOSE images to actually be my clients.
Has anyone dealt with this issue of: trying to see if there’s a mosaic program out there that lets you CHOOSE which images you can put into the select locations where images will actually be SEEN CLEARLY?
Thanks for any help.
Best,

Hi Eric,
Did you come across a permanent fix to your “wrong file type” problem in FCP 7?
I’m facing the same thing.
Mine started acting weird when I transferred all my files (3T worth) from one drive (a WD MY STUDIO that was acting up) to another (A WD MY BOOK LIVE DUO – which is now acting up.)Were you using WD drives by any chance?

Hi Isaac,
I have come across the same issue you had with being unable to open .fcp files. It all happened after transferring all my files from one WD drive MY BOOK) to another one (MY BOOK LIVE DUO) – did you ever find a solution to your problem? Did you find that if you tried to copy your screwed up .fcp files to another drive – they were still screwed up?
I’m debating whether I should consider all my FCP project files on that particular drive as “basically worthless – and literally try to quarantine that drive – start new with another one.
What do you think?
BTW – do some brands of External drives work better with Macs? I’m using a Mac and this problem is occuring on a WD drive – I haven’t seen this on other drives- what kind of drive are you using?
Thanks,

Hi there – I noticed you shared some thoughts from someone having trouble exporting a long FCP sequence. I’m in a similar situation…I shot 3 hours and 16 mins on 2 cameras – and I’ve edited it, rendered it, and when I exported it the first time using standard QT export – the file took like 6 hours and was 140 Gigs. So I thought I’d try to shrink the file in my “quicktime conversion” settings – but that said it’d take like 14 hours. I read on here to export from FCP first – and then bring into Compressor.
My questions are – if I’m starting with a 140 Gig file – I’m thinking that there is no way that I’ll be able to shrink that in compressor to a level where I could fit this video onto a DVD, is there? I know that DVD movies that I watch often have more than 4 hours of footage on them – so I know high-level professionals can do this, but starting with a 140 Gig file I can’t see how I could make it work.
My goal is to get the video onto a DVD…or at a size where it can be streamed on a company’s intranet server.
Do you have any suggestions?
I shot the 3-hour sequence (very simple sequence – just a woman giving a long training) on 2 cameras – the better of which is a Panasonic HMC 150 in 1280 x 720.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Donny -
Okay I’ll try that…thanks.
