  • Are you sure the “c” key on your keyboard isn’t stuck?
    Just throwing that out there.

  • Yeah, if you Live Trace the image and then hit Expand and maybe Ungroup it should break it into individual pieces. You may want to then view it in outlines (CNTL Y) to see if there are any misc. boxes or other items left over from the image that you do not want.

Before you hit Expand you can go in and adjust how detailed you want Live Trace to make your vector image. If you are looking to animate the individual body parts you may still have some work on the resulting vector slicing it up into its individual parts.

It might have been just as easy to just do it all in PS. You could just outline each individual body part copy and paste it into a new file and save each body part as a sepparate Ps/PNG file and the import each of those into After Effects… unless you are going to enlarge any of the body parts a lot, then I would do it through AI.

If there is a lot of text you probably won’t want to do this but you could trace over the image with the pen tool. If had to do it I would lock the image so it doesn’t move. I would trace it with the pen tool as a really thin line in a contrasting color. You can go back and adjust the lines with the anchor points. Once you have it the way you like it you can play with different line widths and different brush strokes to match the image. Then change the color to what you need and unlock and delete the original image.

Probably not the easiest way especially if there is a lot of writing but you could probably get it pretty close.

  • As far as the blue box with the control points, try hitting Ctrl H or going to the VIEW menu and go down to Hide/Show Edges. That might be set to hide Edges.

Ok, I found the AIPrefs file and renamed it. It created another on starting up AI again. Still have the same issue of turning off grids and resetting them back to 10.

However on a good note, in looking into this I found out that by deleting my Workspace and Modified Workspace Folders I got rid of that floating blank tool bar that I had.

I saw an older thread about how to do that but could not find the folder in Windows 7.
