If there is line twitter on any and all kinds of movement then it’s most likely a field order issue:

If your native 350 footage is interlaced, the field order is upper field first. If you’re dropping that footage into an SD timeline then the field order changes to lower first. Make sure that’s the case with your FCP settings. If you’ve created a progressive SD timeline then make sure the field order for all your clips is set to “none”. Use Compressor to transcode your 350 footage from interlaced to progressive.

Also make sure your problem clips are all rendered in the timeline before making a quality assessment.

If there is line twitter only on thin vertical/horizontal line movement then use the FCP Flicker filter and set it to maximum.

This situation has happened (and continues to happen) to a local EX1 user. She has to click to activate each audio track for every clip in XDCAM Transfer. She says this started happening “out of the blue” and has no idea how to change it back to the default of always having the audio um, audible.

To be honest I haven’t devoted any time to figuring out why it happens. I guess because it doesn’t happen to me.

Well I’ve found something on the Canadian Sony XDCAM EX site, Thomas, but the file seems to be missing when one clicks on the download link. Here is the description of the attached file:

The Windows version seems to be available but not the Mac version. Very odd.

I also looked on the American Sony XDCAM EX micro site but there is nothing mentioned about the above software. You might want to check out other Sony site around the globe. Let us know if you find anything.

I’ve heard good things about the G3 setup. While it’s not completely “true diversity” it supposedly uses the connecting XLR on the receiver as a secondary antenna.

I would use 1440×1080 60i. This mode is anamorphic HD. When you bring the footage into Final Cut Pro the program will know it’s anamorphic footage and will display it properly as 1920×1080 60i.

You’re shooting a race of some sort so there’s bound to be lots of fast action sequences. Interlaced is perfect for this type of shooting because of the increased temporal resolution (less motion blur). The only way I would consider progressive is if all the cameras could shoot 720 60p. But they can’t, so you have to use the various cameras’ strengths to your advantage.

The PD170 would be fine for shooting the interviews where you’re “in their face” without having to zoom in, provided you use that anamorphic lens adapter. Otherwise lose the PD170 and rent a small camera that shoots 1080 60i.

Welcome to Creative COW.

I also had issues with the Sennheiser G2 wireless system and my EX1. I was experiencing “picket-fencing” with this combo and I do believe that the EX1 simply did not like the G2 setup. It didn’t seem to matter how close or far away the transmitter was, I was still getting a loud intermittent drop out.

I have since purchased an EX1R and the one and only time I’ve used the G2 setup with this camera the two have played well together. I wish I could be more helpful.

If he doesn’t have a PP setting active then the edge detail etc. will be set for full on detail. Not good for shooting in an environment that has lots of crap floating around.

Yeah, start with a crispening setting of at least +10 as this “raises the threshold at which detail is applied to the image” (thanks to Alister Chapman).
