Because it cuts down the available light by 9% whereas a UV/protector filter is only 3%. This may not be considered a problem for people that shoot with their own lighting but for the event folks a 9% reduction of ambient light is substantial. Do a test and you’ll see what I mean.

The T1 IR filter works as advertised but should not be considered as a permanent lens filter, only when needed. For most of your shooting let your EX1 or EX3 wear the usual UV/protector filter. Even though the newer EX series cameras have modified hot mirrors to make the T! filter redundant, I still find that there is a slight difference when I use it on my EX1R for a scene that has a great deal of man-made black material.
I can’t speak to the PMW-320 or 350.

Well now, I think you guys should head on over to the CatDV forum for a solution to this. On the most recent post a person talks about being able to use a function within CatDV called “attach media” because:
“What this does is actually look for timecode within a media file to relink sub clips no matter what the original media was.”
This person is working exclusively with FCP and is re-connecting subclips from a tape that was initially captured in its entirety. Sounds like with this the FCP recapturing problem would be solved.

Sorry Renier, but I’ve never seen that error window come up before. To be honest I don’t use VLC Player all that much because it’s essentially a program to be used when one doesn’t have the proper player for a particular codec. Wish I could be more helpful in that regard.

Correct. VLC Player will simply play back the footage without modifying it in any way. Best of luck on your shoot.

If you just want to view the native .mp4 EX files then get the application called VLC Player. It’s free and you can find it here:
Son’y Clip Browser software should also be able to play the clips without anything else needed. Quicktime Player 7 or 10 will not play the files because the EX codecs aren’t part of Quicktime Player. The EX Codecs are found in the various editing programs such as Final Cut Pro.
If you find that Clip Browser is missing a window just quit the program and trash the preference file for it. When you start it up again your missing window will be visible. Use Clip Browser to copy your BPAV folders from the cards to your external G-Raid. Don’t change the BPAV name for any of those folders. Put each BPAV folder inside its own uniquely named parent folder. Software such as Sony’s Clip Browser and XDCAM Transfer depend on seeing the BPAV name before they can successfully copy or transcode native EX files.

That’s because you’ve got your wireless receiver set to line. The line setting disables the trim adjust in the EX menu. Set your wireless input to “mic” with no 48v. Once you’ve done that set your trim to -41 as a base line, put your volume control to “5” and start adjusting the internal trim from that point.

Clip Browser is basically a copy tool and doesn’t re-wrap XDCAM EX clips for Final Cut Pro. You need Sony’s XDCAM Transfer Tool for that. This program is a universal binary and will install on either a Power PC or an Intel Mac. You can get Sony’s Transfer Tool here:

See if you can install that file and then report back.

In the FCP timeline choose a choose one of the problem audio sections with in and out points and export a self-contained movie (current settings). See if the problem persists.
