You have to be able to to turn off picture gain on your camcorder because that’s why you’re getting the the noise. Read the owner’s manual about your camera’s manual mode settings and it may allow you to better control the gain feature.

Go to the Final Cut Pro Menu>System Settings>Scratch Disks.
Make sure the “Limit Capture Now” button is unchecked.

Highlight/select your 2 audio tracks and make them a stereo pair. Then select your stereo pair as well as the video track and use the link command.

Export to QT using the same DV PAL Anamorphic preset and your movie will retain the 16:9 aspect ratio. When you bring the resulting .m2v encoded file into your DVD authoring program make sure the video track is set for 16:9 widescreen. You can do this in the Inspector properties tab in the lower right window in DVDSP if you first highlight the video track.

Go to the top of your canvas window and set the sync to “open”. This function is accessed in the middle drop-down menu. Also, in the view menu make sure that “Show Multiclip Angles” is checked. The viewer window should now play your 2 angles in real time. Page 281, Volume 2 of your FCP manual explains.

I can’t advise you on a FW card because I don’t own a laptop and wouldn’t know what to recommend. Sorry.

No, becaue even though you have a FW hub, your hard drive and camera are still going into the same single firewire BUS connection to your computer, so you’re not gaining anything by buying the hub. For optimum ransfer rates the hard drive and the camera need to be on a separate BUS. You need to get a FW card for your laptop that you can plug the hard drive into while using the stock FW port on the laptop for your camera connection.
In some instances the way you have it set up now will work and all frames of video will output properly to your TV or broadcast monitor…….if your computer and grahpics card are fast enough and you’re using a single FW800 BUS. But it’s not recommended.
