What I found quite interesting is that apparently (from a former Flagler employee posting on the Wall St. web site) WM basically demanded that they be the ONLY client of Flagler. Wonder how often THAT happens? I mean, in the video biz.

I’ve found the comments posted by readers of the Wall Street article to be much more interesting than the article itself. One of the comments (there are many and varied) is from a “previous” Flagler employee.

And when the smoke clears and everyone goes home the corporate people won’t be remembering the outcome of who had legal ownership over who’s intellectual ideas or videotaped property. What they WILL remember is that a video production house tried, unsuccessfully or not, to screw over one of their clients. The corporations will now make sure that from this time forward all future dealings with “those types” better come with an iron clad agreement because after all, video people can’t be trusted.

I for one do not like WM. My reasons are my own and are not pertinent to this thread. However, when a company like Flagler does this to a client, WM or not, and their intentions become public it reflects badly on all aspects of our industry. It’s no different than blatant racism. It diminishes us all.

Last Friday, April 4th my wife fielded a call from someone inquiring about how much our one day rate would be to do a cooking show pilot with multiple cameras. The person said it was ultimately going to be for broadcast but that it didn’t have to be shot in HD when we asked that question.
They had no location picked out, no script or storyboard, no talent hired, hadn’t thought about editing at all but the caller did ask about a jib and a steadycam. Oh yeah, and they need the pilot fully completed by the end of the month. So, I’m stating again that even though they had nothing in place they still wanted a fairly accurate price. My wife asked the caller to send a detailed email outlining their goals and budget, basically to see if this was even a serious inquiry. Nothing so far.
Do others here get phone calls like this? BTW Mark, my wife read your response to this thread and is printing it off for reference. No wonder someone gave it 5 bovines.

Nope. Once recorded at 4:2:0 it transfers that way. 4:2:2 has to be captured live because the SDI stream bypasses the compression and comes right off the camera head.

Well, not for me it wasn’t. I was shooting on a tripod that day and had just finished a 180 degree pan at full wide to capture the shot of a new (and unused) Olympic ski jump area. Right after that I zoomed out to maximum (14x) to capture the 2010 Winter Olympics official statue and that’s when I noticed the anomaly. The day was cold but no vibration or anything else to affect the the shot. The EX screw up on this shot is quite subtle compared to the example provided by the original poster of this thread, but it’s definitely there and it’s the same issue. Obviously there are varying degrees of this phenomenon.
I actually used the shot in my web movie because it’s not that noticeable with an 600x 338 frame size, but watching it in 1920×1080 it’s quite obvious. The movie has been up on our web site for awhile now.

You may have re-installed the Sony Transfer Tool Trying to rectify the problem but unless you also deleted the older Sony Transfer Tool’s preference file the same problem will remain. You can follow the path below to navigate to this file and delete it. Once that’s done you can start the Sony Transfer Tool and it will default to its initial preference settings.
Macintosh HD>users>yourname>library>preferences>com.sony.bprl.xdcamtransfer.plist
Drag the .plist file to the trash and restart the Sony Transfer Tool.

It’s pretty simple, really. The most current project I’ve done was shot in 1080p 30. I did all the editing and primary CC in the native EX codec, including a round trip with Color. Afterwards I just did a copy and paste into a DV 50 NTSC timeline, rendered and output a self-contained .mov for BitVice. Looked great on a Samsung 50″ plasma.
