[Jeremy Garchow] “Got Smoothcam on your clips by chance?”
I do and they lose their affiliation with the render files every time I re-open the project. Is there a work around, all seeing, all knowing, Mr. Garchow?

What happens if you don’t? Just curious, as I don’t use any Canon HDV cameras.

I just checked my own GL2, which is always set to full manual and I didn’t see any light shifting. The gain didn’t change, nor did the F stop or shutter speed, all of which will definitely affect the light coming in to the camera. Perhaps you could try replacing the memory battery, but that really does is to remember your last settings as well as the clock time/date, etc.
The other thing you could try is to toggle the electronic ND filter button on and off several times just to make sure that’s working properly. The light shift from turning the ND filter on and off is pretty substantial though, so you’d know right away if it’s the same amount of shift as your recorded video.
Other than that I’d suggest taking the camera to a qualified Canon repair facility.

As far as I know, expanded focus will only stay on when you’re twisting the focus ring on the camera and there’s no way that I know of to keep it on until you decide to push the button again to turn it off. You might want to contact Phil Bloom in the UK and see what he does to achieve proper focus when using 3rd party lens adapters. He has a lot of experience using the Letus with the EX cameras.

Thanks for the link, Stephen. The list pretty much mirrors what I’ve been hearing. I’m assuming that FCP v.6.0.4 is not there yet because the either the list hasn’t been updated or there’s not enough data to base a conclusion.

I’m not trying to be Johnny Raincloud here but neither of the two EX1 cameras I’ve used ever had a problem with holding the date or last picture profile settings in memory, so don’t be surprised if your camera doesn’t do it again at some point. But I hope I’m wrong and I’m glad you got it working.

Actually, I found a pretty good way to hand hold the EX1 that results in steady shots and a minimum of arm strain:
– right hand in the hand grip, adjust angle to taste.
– upper arms flat against body.
– EVF eyepiece pushed firmly against eye socket for a stability point.
– thumb of left hand under the EX where the tripod plate attaches.
– forefinger of left hand now free to work the iris, index finger for the man. focus ring.Even if you don’t use the EVF you can still see the flip out LCD with your other eye, but it’s important to keep the eyepiece jammed against your head for added stability. And keep your other left fingers off the camera when you use the motor zoom otherwise they’ll hit the rotating zoom knob when it goes by.
Works for me.

My knowledge of 24p is quite limited because I’ve never used it. My understanding of the workflow is that first and foremost you need to know what the final output is going to be. Knowing that will determine how you work with the footage and what your sequence time base should be set at.
I’ll leave your question to others that have more experience working with 24p footage. I don’t want to impart what little knowledge I do have and end up confusing the issue for you. That’s why I changed the subject title to attract attention.
One day soon when I have the time I should definitely go through the EX 24p/FCP workflow to see how everything works.
