I agree, unfortunately the talent is going to be seen in the shot, so it will be a wide shot of them (heads and all).

I have the same issue here at work, must be our firewall because if I turn off javascript its fine. Kind of a pain but it fixes the problem.

Wow, I thought for sure there was something I was doing wrong with the AE Flares. So no alpha integration with the bundled lens flares?? I’m putting that on my wish list for next version! Looks like I’ll be luma keying the black solids….lame. Thanks for the help!

Try moving the OpenGL 3D plaug-in out of it’s folder…you’ll find it under after effects/plug-ins/standard/extenstions. Just move it out to your desktop and try starting again. This should clear it up. I have the same problem on my system here. We are running AE on our Avid DS and DS hogs all the open GL…at least thats thats my take on it!
    Good Luck!

I think the Photoshop CS2 Exams came out about 5 months after the software release, so you might expect the same for AE. I got my certification for 6.0 and while I don’t teach (not formally anyway) the exam is a great way to force yourself to dig through and read the manual front to back which is ALWAYS a good thing. If nothing else, passing the exam is a great goal to set for yourself…and you learn alot about the software.
    Good luck!

March 20, 2006 at 8:40 pm in reply to: AE 7 wont launch…

This is the first install of the Suite…we just got it today. I have managed to get AE going by removing the Open GL plug-in. So now AE works, but I have no Open GL. I can’t update to the latest driver because this is our DS Nitris and Avid doesnt support the latest NVIDIA driver! So it seems I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. So for the time being I’ll work this way. Although from what I’ve heard so far about 7.0, Open GL is a pain anyway. So maybe this isn’t such a great loss.
    Thanks for the help!

If your footage is 720×486 then you should be rendering at lower field first. Make sure your footage is also interpreted correctly in your project window. Select footage in project window and go to file interpret footage and make sure fields are set to lower as well. Frame rate should be 29.97 and non-square pixels. Use the Comp presets from the new comp window drop down menu and they should set you up pretty well. It sounds like your having either a field issue or you may be rendering out a 720×480 comp and then importing into Media 100 which needs 720×486. (I’m assuming your working at 720×486)

Well of course the best solution is to re-shoot it correctly. I’ve dealt with alot of bad keys from people who think they can just stand 2 feet in front of a wrinkled green tarp and magic is gonna happen. Hopefully your situation isn’t that bad. Do you have Keylight installed? If so use that for starters. Worst case scenario you might try duplicating your layer and messing with levels and saturation until you have a pretty solid green background. Then apply your keyer and set the output to show matte. then set your bottom layers track matte to luma. Blur and choke your matte layer as needed and dont forget to use garbage mattes.
    Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the link, I actually have done this tutorial before, but I’m looking to get a more 3 dimensional look with the hole being torn out as the text comes through it. Maybe I should just try doing this in a 3D app…
