Use a GENERATED MEDIA with a TRANSPARENT background placed ABOVE the video cli. You can size the text and use the PLACEMENT TAB to put it where you need it in relation to the image. DOn’t forget the TITLE SAFE area.

You want to do a Picture in Picture so put the MAIN movie on track 2 and the secondary movie on track 1. Synch it to where you want it then resize it with PAN/CROP to the size and position you want the PiP to be.

I have a day rate for a single camera with tripod, on cam lighting and 1 wireless audio system. Its for equipment and operator no editing and it is for an 8 hour day, PERIOD. That rate is 650.00 and I tacked on another hundred for going straight to DVD-after all I have to use 4 DVDs and 4 jewel cases plus I have to push the record button. 😉

Its easy money, BORING as all get out but who cares-cash is cash. I believe it will lead to some additional work for either him OR perhaps the clients he does the training for.

Hmmmm, good question. I’m trying to remember what I did 20+ years ago. Oh yeah, the same thing I’m doing now. I talk to everybody I meet, I belong to a couple of business organiztions and network (talking to everyone) They won’t hire you if they don’t know what you do. I do a lot of business seminars and conventions as well as training vids and things of that nature. I try to get to know the people a bit and during the conversation I try to come up with 1 way that video can be a benefit to their business. it might be covering a sales seminar or a convention, maybe a training video (how to) perhaps a welcome message from the CEO to new employees or clients-it might even be just a duplication or transfer job. One organization I belong to is the convention bureau and when a convention books in my city I get a notice of things they need-so if they check off video and its a show or convention I feel I can handle I’ll bid on it. I’m competing against some of the really big guys but I know my limitations so if I don’t feel its something I can handle right I pass. I guess you have to decide on an area that you want to delve into and let everyone you meet, know thats what you do-be it seminars, legal deps, day in the life vids, training vids, whatever.
As an example I met a guy a few weeks ago who is a professional sales trainer and has about 20 1 day seminars yet to do this year. I got to talking to him and he wanted them archived on video for himself. One day, an 8 hour day at that, 1 camera and I’m going straight to DVD with 1 wireless system for the speaker. No tape no edit just turn on the camera and the DVD burner and BAM! We’ve already signed the service agreement I’ve gotten my retainer and we’re all set to go. Not a large sum of money but still enough to make it worth my while. Point is though, I met him at the counter of a resturant while we were both having coffee and reading the morning paper. Moral of the story, be ready at all times you never know who you’re going to meet or what can come of it.
Good luck in your new venture,

open the Vegas project-hightlite a portion of the audio track that has both voice and hiss-copy into NR in NR Get Noise Print or whatever they call it in NR and that should get you going on the correct path.
(I’m guessing on NR as I use a different NR program but they all work in pretty much the same method)

FW transfer is no different than whats on the tape. It is simply copiying the information from th etape. It is not doing anything to the quality of the footage so there are only 3 possiblities.
    1) The computer monitor you’re looking at th efootage on sucks and it looks worse than it actually is
    2) there is a problem in your FW connection somewhere
or 3) you aren’t really decribing the problem quite as well as you can (no offense please but its hard to solve a problem without all of the information up front)
Now to try to solve it.
If its 1 then beg or borrow another monitor and check it out (I’ve had it happen where one monitor looked a lot worse than another)
If its 2) then pick up another FW card and Cable -they’re both inexpensive – and change ONE at a time and see what happens. I don’t think its 3 anymore as you’ve now given us the information to try to help you solve this. Again remember t ocheck the preview settings on the Vegas Preview-Draft qaulity doesn’t look so good.
Keep us informed of how its going-perhaps start a new thread as this one is getting farther down the list now.

Maybe I missed something in the other posts but if the footage looked good straight from the camera to a TV and it looks bad after capture, it’s probably not the software but more than likely the display unit you’re viewing the footage after capture. If you’ve captured in VidCap from the Vegas software and then looking at it on the timeline how is your preview set? Is it set to DRAFT or GOOD or BEST or???? The only reason I’m saying this is frankly I’ve never had a problem using the VidCap in Vegas-the footage doesn’t change between the camera and the computer-all you’re doing is copying the from 1 to another.
Anyway, take a quick look at the video display you’re viewing th efootage on after capture. I have a hunch the problem could be there.

Sorry missed the post this far down. In Noise Reduction sample a section of the hiss between words, get the noise sample, then run NR thru the audio. It will remove the hiss whereever it hits it on the frequency. If you still need further reduction then do it again but be careful as you can easily change the pitch of the voice.

NR is a pretty simple program and one of the best for doing what its called.

You might also try VEGAS>NON REALTIME FX goto TRACK EQ and use #1-pull down and to the right until the vocal changes then back off a bit. This will work on noises that aren’t TOO bad. Plus if it doesn’t work you can revert back to th eoriginal take in Vegas and all you’ve lost is a little time.

On my PD150s and DSR250 I lower the sharpness by 1 click to the left in the custom preset menu. It seems to have helped take “the edge off” a bit. With my JVC5000 I’ve not had to do that. seems it might be more of a camera thing.
