October 1, 2015 at 8:25 pm in reply to: Oh dear. Yosemite whinging at FCP 7.0.3 please offer adviceYes I’m afraid that is just not the case
We spent months filming with BBC national news and can categorically say- one last time – they are not using FCPX
It’s not (once again) the nature of my post so I’m really going to politely disregard the FCPX stuff. If you use it great – knock yourself out. But the query is about how to solve the issue posted since it works very well in Yosemite – but not just yet for me.
And for those suggesting we go back run lion etc. (I hear you loud and clear ) but we have been upgraded to MBP 15 retinas 2015 free of charge so we need to deal with Yosemite and I’m really grateful for suggestions about how to get us back on track
If when we move to el Cap FCP 7 breaks then we’ll do another hunt for broadcasters and film studios using FCPX – but well most likely work from AMC7

September 30, 2015 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Oh dear. Yosemite whinging at FCP 7.0.3 please offer adviceYes, I’m sorry, I should’ve said in my original post that I didn’t want to get into the whole Final Cut Pro/iMovie pro debate.
For what it’s worth, I’ve just been working with the BBC channel 4 and Sky TV over here and out of the biggest three National broadcaaters the reality isi that none of them use Final Cut 10, quite a few of them are still happily using Final Cut seven and with just one motion picture under its belt (Focus) I think it’s difficult to argue for the moment that it is the way to go often Final Cut seven
NOW… That being said, if I could get back to the original query, can anyone offered Advice [without preferably involving hours reinstalling DVDs as mentioned in my original post] to help me get this working, I’d be very grateful

Hi Guys
I can see a lot of numbers on this page. As we have to provide a decision on whether to add FCPX or FCP7 to our existing expert courses (in Avid MC6 and Premiere CS6) for 259,000 UK school students I would be very grateful of getting the sources of these numbers being mentioned.
the numbers I can see shown here are..
– Adobe Premiere Pro, 2.5 million (Fall 2012)
– FCP 1-7, 2 million (NAB 2011)
– FCP X, 1 million (NAB 2014)Can anyone add the name of the source (ideally a person and at least a company – or a weblink?)
Thanks a million, if you can help?

January 23, 2009 at 11:52 am in reply to: Rendering HDV Chroma Key clips BEFORE dragging to the timeline?Hi Rafael
I;’m grateful for what you say but “To do so you need to put your clips in the time-line because is the only place you can apply any effect in FC. ” isnt entirely correct, from what I understand, in as much as you can drag a chroma key effect from the list of effects onto a clip in the browser and then from then on that clip will have the chroma key effect, and any other clips you do the same thing to, what I’m trying to is then leave these to render out so they can be added and edited in the timeline without having to have poor playback just because they have alpha.
So I guess put another way, I need to find a way to batch render the alpha out and back in, though that itself might be a pain!
I think when all is said and done, I probabluy want to try and look at a prores solution as my Mac Eight Core takes ages to render 5 video tracks (video+aplpha(chroma), 3D HD motion title, 2D Motion HD lower 3rd,HD 2D motion background, HD still background) (HD=HDV 1080i)
20 secodns of that takes 55 minutes!! I think that HAS to be quicker if I can figure out the right workflow – but Iv e never used ProRes and havent found the definitive idiots guide to workflow 🙂
