You don’t need those scripts for FCP 5, only for FCP1. There are a number of potential reasons for this problem, so try these:

1. reboot the computer
2. plug your camera into your computer via firewire and switch it on in VCR mode
3. open FCP
4. make sure that your easy setup is ‘Firewire Basic’.
5. try capturing

If that doesn’t work, then you should locate your FCP preference file and delete it. The file is called “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist” and is located in your ‘preferences’ folder (there are usually 2 of these, one in your root ‘library’ directory and one in your user ‘library’ directory. FCP will start up again with the default settings, so you will have to reset scratch disks etc, but it usually fixes whatever is wrong with the app.

Finally, you may have a Quicktime problem. Every time there is a QT update you run the risk of breaking FCP. In this case I suspect it isn’t that, as yours is a very common issue, usually fixed by the first two methods.

I have recently loaded FCP 5.1 onto a new MacBook Pro with Leopard and it seems fine. It has only been a few days and I’ve been working only with HDV and DVCProHD, but no problems at all so far.
