I have a VHS of a friend’s wedding with timecode burned in. Can anyone suggest a way to remove the text? The result does not have to be perfect, just watcheable. I have been trying to do it in Shake, using masks and painting clone pixels, but it is just too much to do that way. I have also trialled The Foundry’s wire removal plug-in, which is awesome, but would take my G5 2.7 Dual over a YEAR to render in full! So I turn to AE as it is just so darn clever! I am on CS3 at the moment, but expect to upgrade my entire system in the next few weeks and will soon be on CS5.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance. Dominic

Unfortunately, there’s really no way to do this since there are plenty of ways to remove a timecode window (masking, blurring, etc.), but there’s still the much more significant problem of how to fill the space it leaves … it’s not as though there’s video information behind that black timecode box that just needs to be restored somehow … there’s nothing there so there’s nothing to fill it with unless the scene is so uncomplicated that it would be passable to essentially paste another region of the screen over or paint over the hole.

Good point, Dave … I should’ve read more thoroughly … guess I missed the “VHS” part so I was thinking of a window burn with the big black box.

That sounds fantastic, but is there a version for Mac?

Thanks very much for the speedy replies everyone! I suspect I have a lot of work to do still …
