    Work in a DV timeline.

Cut the HDV edit footage into a DV timeline (copy and paste your existing edit) and let render overnight. Done.

Any new HDV footage you might cut in needs to be rendered, but after the big downconvert (all done while you were sleeping) it’ll be only a little annoying. All new DV footage will cut right in and playback without rendering.

You absolutely WILL NOT need any new equipment or capture cards.

Not with HDV – since you can only Print To tape and that means so inserts and no assembles.
    I’ll live with it.

  • no doubt.

another option would be to lay the matching original source footage over your animations, then use trackmatte>alpha and render that instead. All it has to do with your footage is read the alpha channel so it might go faster.

  • Sheesh – they’d’ve had to render it no matter what.

If it’s encrypted, get Mac the Ripper
If not, or aftert using mac the ripper, use MPEGStreamclip to convert to DV or some other QT.
    Import that file.

    Look in Preferences> Encoding.
What compressor settings are you using?

green screens seem to work better than blue in DV.

  • Wow, some choice, since Neither Camera does 24P (advanced or standard.)
But since the 170 has been around longer and I’ve read the HDV camera doesn’t offer any improvement in the DVCAM world, go with which ever camera the shooter feels more comfortable with.

I’ve never had a quality problem with Compressor to DVD files. I always use the presents, like 4:3 120 minute fastest or best. I have had the same sucess with HDV down converting to SD DVD. No field issues. Perhaps DVD Studio Pro is re-encoding the footage for you and doing a bad job? Presuming your are using DVD Studio Pro. Try to play the Compressor output video in DVD Studio Pro and see if looks bad there (or play it in something else to check if Compressor is the problem or your DVD burning software.)
