  • Having delved further into this it appears all is as it should be..
    FYI I am using a Matrox RT.X 100 card and it does not seem as wide screen as OHC 1394 generic capture. (Which is what my original footage was)

    Having made adjustments in AE using 16:9 settings and then placing in time line against unadjusted clip (both clips captured by RT.X card) all perspective is intact.

    Therefore we can draw a line under this one..

  • I have just looked into this.

    My footage was indeed being interpreted as 4:3 rather than 16:9.
    Once I changed it tho, the result was still very much the same..ie looked like 4:3
    That said I could see the letterbox shape in gray araound the video but it still was not filling it!

    I am getting somewhere here. However when I move the duplicate layer around all I see of the orignal layer is the mask of the mike.. nothing else remains!
    So the one bit i wanted to be a “hole” has remained full of microphone if that makes sense..
