  • I made 2 changes from the last time I captured from the DVCAM deck.
I upgraded to Windows 10, removed Vegas 10 and installed Vegas 11.

    Hi Shandeep,
I am using Variable bit rate, not using 2 pass or deblocking.
    What settings do you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Diane

I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 and cannot render using GPU either.

    Hi Aaron,

Here’s screenshots of my choices. I have Vegas 11
Sorry for the poor quality. What do you think of these numbers?

I don’t use special effects. I create fairly simple titles, basic cuts, dissolves, some slo-mo and maybe color correct. For that kind of editing do you still think its better to double render?

    Thanks,
    Diane

    Hi Aaron,
The only choices I have in the Sony MXF(mxf) format drop down list are:
    HD EX 1920X1080-60i
    HD422 1920X1080-60i 50Mbps

I used the first one,(HD EX 1920X1080-60i)changed the 60i to 30p and was able to upload that to You Tube. Progress!

I’m curious as to why I don’t get the same render choices you mention. Is my initial project template correct?
    HD 1080-60i (1920X1080,29.970 fps)

Also, when you say to “take your clips, and render them to a 1080-30p-XDCAM-EX.MFX profile. Then edit the xdcam clips…and render your media to the same XDCAM profile.

Why is it necessary to render the clips twice? I’ve always done all my editing on the original clips in their native format and then rendered the final project.

    Thanks,
    Diane

    Hi Aaron,
Thanks for getting back to me. I am looking at the possible render settings in XDCAM EX (*.MP4) and 1080-30p-XDCAM–EX.MFX profile is not an option.

The only custom settings available under XDCAM EX (*.MP4) are:
    SP 1440X1080-50i, 25 Mbps CBR
    SP 1440X1080-60i, 25 Mbps CBR
    HQ 1280×720-24p, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1280×720-50p, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1280×720-60p, 35Mbps VBR
    HQ 1440×1080-24p, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1440×1080-50i, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1440×1080-60i, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1920×1080-24p, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1920×1080-50i, 35 Mbps VBR
    HQ 1920×1080-60i, 35 Mbps VBR

So, I’m not sure how to proceed.

I just looked at the link for editing XDCAM on a Mac, looks kind of overwhelming.

  • John,
You’re right, I did do something different. I forgot that I had to install Canon Transfer Utility software in order to import video files from the camcorder to the PC and then into Vegas. It’s all working now. 🙂
    Thanks!

  • Hi Mike and all who are interested,

Thank you for the Dropbox link! I uploaded your QT version 7.6.8 from DropBox and installed it, restarted my PC but to no avail. Any video file from the ipad caused Vegas to stop responding.

Yesterday I had my appointment at the Apple store. The person I talked with had never heard of upside down videos or photos but told me that if you hold the ipad in landscape mode and tilt it ever so slightly beyond vertical (down) it will go upside down. To avoid this possibility, tap the home button twice, swipe across the bottom from left to right and click the icon on the left side which will lock the format. We’ll see if that works.
He also suggested a reset back to default settings and I did that.

At home, I installed Vegas 10 on my Dell laptop. This has QT version 7.74. It would not read the files from the ipad itself but if I put the video files on the desktop first, I could open them in Vegas! Progress!

So, perhaps my 5 1/2 year old XP PC is too old. I very much prefer editing on that to the laptop, but it seems as though it may be impossible. At least I can start to work with the files I have.

If I learn more I will post it here.

Thanks again for all the help, this is a wonderful forum!
    Diane
