  • Getting Vegas 11 to recognize connected camcorder

Posted by Diane Sosnoski on May 6, 2015 at 11:56 pm

I’ve just set up a new PC, a Dell with an Intel i5 processor, 12G RAM using windows 8.1. I loaded Vegas 11 and am unable to capture video from my Canon VIXIA camcorder. The pop up window does not recognize a connected device but I do see it in windows explorer.
I never had this problem with my last setup using Vegas 10 and an old PC.
    Advice gratefully accepted!

Are you saying that this camera worked with Vegas Pro 10 on your old PC but not Vegas Pro 11 on the new one? That’s odd. How are you hooking up the camera? How are you trying to capture the video? Are you doing anything different from what you did in Vegas Pro 10?

It looks to me like the Canon VIXIA camcorder uses a memory card and therefore connects via USB and should be seen in the Device Explorer. If not, you might have to navigate to the root of the memory card on the camera to get it recognized by the Device Explorer. This assumes that Vegas Pro can recognize the Canon card format at all. If Vegas Pro 10 did then 11 should too.

[Diane Sosnoski] ” I loaded Vegas 11 and am unable to capture video from my Canon VIXIA camcorder.”

There are several VIXIA models. You say you have had this camera working with VP10? I’m guessing that that would be 4 years back? Does this camera use TAPE? How did you then get your footage to the PC? If it was via firewire then there would be a set of procedures that you’d need to be following. So, firstly, what exact model of the VIXIA do you have? Does it use TAPE and does it have firewire out?

    Let’s hear . . . .

    John,
You’re right, I did do something different. I forgot that I had to install Canon Transfer Utility software in order to import video files from the camcorder to the PC and then into Vegas. It’s all working now. 🙂
    Thanks!
