How can I import and edit iPad 4 MOV. files in Vegas 10?
Posted by Diane Sosnoski on July 16, 2013 at 1:52 amWhen I try and import MOV files from my new ipad 4 into Vegas 10 it crashes. What do I have to do to be able to edit these files in Vegas 10?
Thanks for any help!Mike Kujbida replied 12 years, 9 months ago 5 Members · 19 Replies -

July 16, 2013 at 3:45 amHow does the “crash” present itself, and what version of QuickTime do you have installed?

July 16, 2013 at 2:35 pmI found out that newer versions of QuickTime do not work properly. I have 7.6.8 on my Pro 10 machine and I can import iPad files with no problem.
You can find most older versions at https://www.oldversion.com/windows/quicktime/ -

July 16, 2013 at 11:33 pmThanks Mike. I upgraded Quicktime right before I tried to load the files thinking I’d need the latest version. Huge mistake!
I went to Oldversion.com. It’s necessary to install an ad based downloader to proceed with the download. I’m nervous about doing that so I’m holding off but I looked at the Apple website and it’s possible to download Quicktime 7.6 for Windows there. Would you advise that?
Another issue I have with the ipad is that the videos I shoot look fine on the ipad but are upside down on other PC based devices. I know I shot them correctly. (A separate issue from Vegas.)
Today I made an appointment for Thursday at my local Apple store. I hope to find the solutions to some or all of the problems I’m having.
I’ll let you know if I have any luck. Thanks again for your response. You’ve helped me many times over the years and I really appreciate it!

July 17, 2013 at 9:14 amHi, I’m most interested in what the store has to say 🙂
Regarding moving back to an old version of QuickTime… it didn’t work for me, but I have a theory … I think the necessary codec is in QuickTime Pro. The latest version of QuickTime (apparently) disables some or all of the PRO capability and you need to buy it again from Apple. Perhaps for those who the older QuickTime was a solution you already had PRO on your system and reverting to an older QuickTime version re-enabled it.
However I have NOT heard QuickTime Pro works from a credible enough source yet.
Could anyone here, who can currently edit iPhone 5 footage check to see whether they have QuickTime Pro or what Codec G-Spot or Medainfo advise as the correct Codec? My next move is ask some friends with Apples and iPhone and see if they can view or edit footage from their iPhones.

Diane, I truly detest it when sites do things like that to software that used to be so easy to download 🙁
“but I looked at the Apple website and it’s possible to download Quicktime 7.6 for Windows there. Would you advise that?”
I checked my Dropbox folder and it turns out that I had saved 7.6.8 in there.
You can get it at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20488019/quicktimeplayer768.exe
Try that version and see if it solves your problem.“Another issue I have with the ipad is that the videos I shoot look fine on the ipad but are upside down on other PC based devices. I know I shot them correctly. (A separate issue from Vegas.)”
I’ve had that happen to me too and have never been able to figure out why it does that. Interestingly enough it’s only Apple devices that I’ve had this problem with.

I only use the free QuickTime player (7.6.8 as previously mentioned) and guarantee that I can load, play and edit files from my daughter’s iPad (2 I think) and iPhone 5.

thanks – bang goes my theory.Do you use G-Spot? if so what does it make of the footage? does it propose a codec?
thanks
