Thanks for the reply we are building an HD system and might go this route. After doing some research I found the EVS XT2 now supports ProRes 422. So we might go that route we’ll see.

    Thanks again

I would check again. Second, Quicktime is not a codec it is a wrapper around a codec. I’m not familiar with Premiere but on their website there list of supported codecs or lack thereof, MXF it is limited to DV and DVCPRO HD. Also you won’t be able to use the ProRes codec unless you already have FCS2, so why bother getting Premier in that case.

I believe one of the biggest differences is FCP had a more broad support for different Codecs and formats including it’s own ProRes 422.

Very highly doubt it, little alone the whole rumor. Even though very pretty it was also needing a major update. If Apple was selling it’s Pro Apps and Xserve Raid, why did they just come out with Xsan 2 and market it towards broadcast pros? No, they are opening Xsan to work on 3rd party machines since they make so much more in software than they do in Hardware.

They figured since they didn’t have the 100 xserve raids to bring with them to show off there was no reason in coming. Ha Ha. Every year I would just stand in awh over all those drives with all the little led lights flickering. Now all we have is a promise, i’m sure it’s a step above the xraid but not near as pretty.

The “Xserve” is still available, but the “Xserve Raid” is not.

I don’t know why it just clipped the blacks on some beta footage that I digitized then. The Blacks were dipping below 0 and after I applied the broadcast safe filter, everything below 0 was clipped.

You could only use Xsan with an Xserve Raid. Or at least it was the only qualified device for Xsan.

Other than some Hard Drive upgrades over the years, the Enclosure itself hasn’t seen anything new in what 4-5 years. It was a great drive, expensive, but nothing new for that period of time. I was expecting an update last year but to no avail, must not have sold enough of them. I think this will open the door more for Xsan since you will be able to put other Raids other than Xserve Raid on it. They make so much more off of Software than they do Hardware.

The Broadcast Safe Filter in FCP 6 should clip blacks at 0.
