It does not mention that, only that it’s Ideal for “OB vans” Oh my… a far cry from a grade A gradeing mon as they present it
May just be sub optimal marketing tho, hopefuly so…. and what’s the cost of the Minolta meter?

Good point…. the entire roll out was OTT, and not in a good way – the name iMoviePro has really stuck, even with agency creative directors who would be a perfect target market will not be caught dead with it – it’s just so vastly uncool a thing to admit to haveing installed.
Given Steve Bayes background and the pre-release hype – i was thinking it might give DS & Smack a run for their money. The glowing quotes from TrailerPark is a prime example of this…
But the lost source code for Shake & Color did not re-appear, and with that loss, goes the hopes for a powerhouse FCX, and yea the OTT hype and FCX name are not helping much.Oh well
They got my $300… and it’s been worth the minimal cost – if only to be able to tell my clients to stay far away for now with – some real world iMoviePro chops in my back pocket as proof.
As a side note, every single client of mine who were on FC7 last year are now on PP or MC, maybe 30-40% of the projects i finished last year were cut on FC7, it’s now zero, and looking ahead no projects i’m finishing up to the end of the year are on either FC7 or iMoviePro
Will wait and see what 2013 brings

The lack of bit depth in the Flanders 21 makes it a non starter for me, but Flanders do say it’s not a gradeing mon… and the real deal 24″ Flanders is actualy cost competive with Dreamcolor + scope, if you can live with the tiny scope display in the Flanders that is…
The total package for either is still a fair bit above your 2K celling tho…
I have been told that there is nothing short of a full on callibration system to lock in the Pana Plasma.. would love to know that it’s incorrect info, but it seems like it’s correct… and there’s no one local to me that offers callibration service unfortunatly
So for me i’d have to buck up for a i1+LightSpace and the Pana Plasma..
it’s not what you pay for it, it’s what it costs ya as my dad said… the cost of sending out masters that are off makes the Dolby 42″ look cheap…

dual link HDSDI out from an Aja to a BMD HDlinkPro, displayport on one system & HDMI on the other one (I’m not using Resolve on either system)

Can’t answer to the Flander’s,
but i callibrate my DreamColor every 500 hours, and it takes about 30 min to complete
They nag you at you when you are getting close to the pre-set hours, i think in the documentation HP recomend 1500 hours, but as it’s so fast and painless i do it more often that that.
Worth looking at if you are limited to a sub 3K budget for monitoring for sure, by the time you have a Ultrascope beside it – it’s really a 5K hole in you wallet tho.

even a stone age MC can read ProRez if they have the codec loaded, it’s free and there’s no reason not to have it.

November 17, 2011 at 4:37 pm in reply to: SInce Davinci now costs nothing, is it worth anything?I’m still driveing a DS mainly.. in the last month i’ve graded two MOW’s, three national commerical packages, done a trim pass to get a 709 feature into LOG, and am gradeing a feature in P3 for scope this week (and next)
My clients don’t care what i drive, they care that i care, they care that i do good work, they care i listen to them…
I need to see a reasonable ROI, moving Resolve to w7 is a key for me, i use Mac’s personaly, but all my working tools are on HP systems…
The value of Resolve is what it brings to me, and what it takes away… DS may be a better tool in my hands anyway, esp once it’s got the surface attached.. as Pat knows i’ve been using node based gradeing for a decade now.. and that set me apart from the crowd back then.
The cost is minimal for me once it’s ported, a BMD I/O card and an extra Q4000 card.. i’ll spend the 1K for sure… just to find out
The value of it? that is in my hands & my eyes..

November 16, 2011 at 5:09 pm in reply to: DaVinci Resolve Lite 8.1.1 released with unlimited nodes and DNxHD includedChances are that the biz model includes folks like me who own 3x Aja duallink I/O cards, and now will have to buy BMD cards 😉
Waiting, waiting for the w7 specs…. have a z800 with 12 cores/ 24 gigs warmed up….
