  • “What’s this FCPX thing?”

I don’t know. But what’s this I hear about Conan’s editors dumping FCP entirely and now they’re taking a serious look at- wait for it- PREMIERE?? Have they gone daft?

    😉

This looks really cool, especially the adr stuff!

Hopefully we’ll get a real preview of ppro soon. Conan’s crew gave us a great look at the interface, but as far as features go, all we know so far is that the thumbnails “are not literally the size of a thumbnail…”

“is there a way to insert material from one sequence to another WITHOUT nesting? I remember Ppro was missing this feature before…and now I’m really hoping it has it…”

Yes, there is- after copying the clips, go to the sequence you want to add them to and do a “paste insert”
(in the edit menu, or Ctrl – Shift – V on the keyboard).

Sorry to hear about the poor organization of your project. It doesn’t surprise me though, since it wasn’t meant to be a half-hour show originally. Sounds like it came together on a spur-of-the-moment decision…

Wow, that’s great! Out of curiosity, what video format was the show shot with?

As for whether or not it was a fluke- only time will tell. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a trend when CS6 gets here, because it looks very promising. Just from watching the John Adobe video, you can tell they’ve been working their tails off on this thing. The entire timeline has been rebuilt, for starters. Those new audio meters are gorgeous, and the playback buttons are much nicer looking. The whole thing has a lot less clutter and it seems like it will be much easier to find things quickly. Everything seems to have a more professional feel to it- they seem to be taking into account that people are going to be using this program for hours on end if they’re working on something very significant like, say, a half-hour tv show…

  • That article on the Adobe site that this post linked to was interesting.

While I was reading it, I noticed it said that Adobe was co-founded by a guy named John Warnock.

So there REALLY IS a John Adobe! Fascinating… 😉

  • “Don’t assume that they don’t have private meetings with key customers to get input and their reaction on upcoming features. These tend be handled with a Mission Impossible level of deniability, but they do happen.”

The fact that Apple DID talk to FCP users during the development of X makes it a lot harder for me to forgive them for the train wreck of last year. That means there was a lot of good input on things that could be added or improved in Final Cut that all got tossed aside because Apple wanted to do things THEIR way.

  • “The fact that the product manager for the application just popped into this forum to highlight that they are aware of and are working to address the problem 72 hours after it was raised in a single blog post is a little mindbending.”

That IS pretty impressive, isn’t it? The way this whole thing unfolded reminded me a lot of the Conan video. John Adobe himself just paid us a visit… 🙂

  • Premiere Pro CS6!

I’m really hoping Adobe will either introduce their own intermediate codec, or have full support for ProRes and/or DNxHD (import, sequence settings, and export) built in- and have it so transcoding to intermediate files can be gpu-accelerated by the Mercury Engine!

(but please, Adobe, no magnetic stuff…)

If you use your New iPad as a reference monitor, it will get very warm and will lose its battery charge even while plugged in:

Somewhere else I saw someone mentioned they thought it would be neat if Adobe changed the titler in PPro so that it saved titles in Photoshop’s .PSD format instead of the .PRTL format it uses now. I thought that was a neat idea- not only would it allow you to open a title in Photoshop to do complex changes there, it would also make it easy to turn it into an After Effects comp…
