Thanks Dave – I was aware of both but looking for user insight. Are you by chance using Final Cut ? If so – what have you found to be most successful in terms of work flow from 7D – FCP ?

Not worried about me- I know I’ll need to wrap some extra gear around the Canon. What I’m looking for is insight on how the CMOS sensors handle the motion. I’ve heard they are different than CCD chips; what I’m used to in video.

Have done all of that, to no avail.
Not sure what else to try at this point.

From wha I can tell camera is set to component 1080i/480i. Other choices are down convert squeeze and dv wide convert / letter box.

November 15, 2010 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Best way to handle M2T files for Final Cut Express?

Yes – demo worked great. Also discovered SONY has plug-ins available that allow FCP to import the M2T from the Memory Recorder I used – here: https://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/ext/hdv/z7u_s270u_m35u/HVR-Z7U/unit_software.html#A2

I’m going to see if it will work once the M2T files are on my hard drive.

Are you getting M2T clips out of the memory card? Or is your memory recorder capable of something else? I’m involved in a project with a Sony HVR-MRC1 Memory REcording Unit and everything came out M2T – which I’m converting with ClipWrap. I’m thinking if I get the camera I need the right Memory Recorder – or maybe an Aja unit that will take me directly to something I don’t need to transcode.

Rafael – Used ClipWrap in a test run converting to ProRes, and rewrapping – which turned the M2T clips into Apple HDV. The latter clips are much smaller than their comparable ProRes clips, and play much smoother in Quick Time. They also look just fine. Do you think I’ll be o-k editing the Apple HDV versions? (Not sure why I wouldn’t be – but I know ProRes 422 is considered an editing codec.

    Thanks!

Hi Rafael – I’m sorry , but I don’t know what rewrapped files are. Do you think I would be O-K transcoding M2T to ProRes 422 – or do those files become the rewrapped files you mentioned – and crash my system?

(Sorry – I’m not to technical).

I’m still trying to figure out what – if anything – is worth pursuing to convert this stuff. Or whether I’m going to just bring it into the system from tape (both a memory card and tape were recorded.)

    >> I have MPEG STream Clip but have not explored it much. Will it batch process the M2Ts ?

What I can’t figure out is why there are so many Sony cameras out there – if this is a problem for so many Final Cut Pro users. ( OR what I’m doing wrong.)

ClipWrap was mentioned to me in an earlier post. I’m going to take a look at that. I’ll let you know if I find something that’s fast and has quality.

Hi Rafael – You’re saying ClipWrap – (or Pavtube) makes your FCP crash? What version are you running?

    thanks!
