The tone is a reference meaning that the average of the program audio falls at the 0 VU level. Excursions over of up to 12 db or so and audio under -8 or so (analog) are all right but most of the audio will fall near that level.

On a betaSP that would be a 1KHz tone set at 0 on the machine’s analog audio meter. On a digital scale that would show up as -20 so if you set your NLE to create bars & tone at -20 (standard tone) and set your record machine to 0 db, you should have it correctly set.
That is, of course, provided you set your program levels to match your tone.Del

I’d have to go with Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas in Connecticut and Holiday Inn. I dislike the colorized version of 34th St. but that’s all I could find.
My wife and I start playing snow movies first…Silverado, Hunt for Red October, any DVD we have that shows snow. Then we graduate to semi-Christmas movies like While You Were Sleeping and Sleepless in Seattle. Then we go hard for the 3 above plus White Christmas, The Preacher’s Wife, The Lemondrop Kid and a few others. I usually use December to burn unused vacation so when not cutting and splitting wood for the stove or running errands for my wife, I’m in my chair with a Cheerwine or Diet Dr. Pepper watching a DVD.

Hi again
once you’ve masked per Darby or cut per Del, you have to save the image as a psd., .tif or any file that saves layers & masks. Resaving as a jpeg does what you see.

Two ways. First is double click on the layers tab which shows a black lock. This will ask if you want to create this as a layer. Say yes. Delete the white around the cut-out selection.2nd way is to cut or copy and paste the selection. This makes a new layer. Keep the new layer and delete the background layer.
Done.

Your profile doesn’t tell where you live so the following is generic based on living in or near a top 10 market. If you want to do dollar-a-holler commercials you can do your own marketing in smaller than top 10 markets.Commercial production is a very specialized field. Getting hired by a high end post house would be the quickest way into it. You would have to convince them you can use flame or shake for compositing as well as smoke or Avid DS for editing. The agencies only solicit bids from houses they know and trust so unless you’re working for one of them you are unlikely to be able to break in. Sometimes doing excellent work for a regional project of a national account in a large but not top 10 market could also move you to the “bigs”.
You might start as an assistant in order to learn all that is required to sit in the chair with the clients in the room. Learn from the editors/artists wherever you can and you can break in. Your experience in corporate will be useful getting you that job as an assistant.

The best framerate for multi-format mastering is 23.98p. Since the project is going to 3 formats that would probably be best for your project. Master at 1280×720 23.98p and everything else is downconverted. The better standards converter you have the better the pulldown result will be (ie Snell & Wilcox or Teranex).
If at some time in the future you’ll be distributing on Blu-Ray you might want to master at 1920×1080 23.98p and downconvert to the three formats. Your DVDs can be clones of your masters.
