While tedious, an individual segment of the line per layer would get you what you want. That would be a lot of layers. Start with the final line and reduce it by one dash, save file, then remove another segment of the dash, save file, etc. until you’re down to only one dash. Put the layers back together with 1+2+3+4…until the map is redrawn with all the segments revealed.

I think creating an Action would reduce the time to create and save the layers as files.

This is a crude and elementary way to do the animation but it would work and you could use blending options to enhance the look of the dashed line.

Practice.

He knows his tools and is comfortable applying them to the appropriate setting. He knows not only editing, but motion graphics and design.

You won’t get there in a day but if you read the suggested books and learn the plug-ins that do the effects and graphics on edit systems, you could be there in a year or so.

Very few editors do the edgy stylistic music video approach you see in Scott’s demo. Yeoman work requires the same attention to detail, pacing, effects and compositing but usually for longer projects that tell a more detailed story.

Effects artists, on the other hand, work every day to make video in the manner that Scott does using Flame or Henry or After Effects. They learned editing along the way but are more vertical in their skills so they can add layer upon layer and get art and not detritus.

Just kidding. I’d think hourly would be best as the AE open could take longer than the rest of your highlight video and you don’t want to shortchange yourself. After you see what that adds up to you might want to offer a discount for old times sake (or not).

Have you looked at filter>textures>canvas? That would give you the image to paint over.

Broadcast quality is certainly subjective but the better the image sampling in the camera the better the air quality will be. In the commercials where the testimonials will air, what camera will be used to shoot the paid talent? At around $6000 the Sony HDV camera makes great pictures. At $3000 the image is nearly as good without pro features on the camera (audio input being an important one). At less than $1000 it isn’t real likely the images will match up to the rest of the commercial. If these images need to be pristine go with the more expensive camera. If you add filters and effects in post to the testimonials a less expensive camera will do. CSI NY uses DV for flashback scenes which are heavily treated in post so they don’t need to match the rest of the show by their nature.

The GVG 110 is the component version of the 100. Both require an external sync generator with the sync signal being fed to all units in the broadcast chain. Hopefully your cameras can take external sync as well.

While somewhate expensive, Illustrator handles this problem. I open the eps file in Illustrator, usually blow it up 300% because I work a lot in high definition video, then export it to a psd or tif file so the transparency stays with the files. Then I add an alpha channel and I have a usable file.
