You probably have already done this, but in case you haven’t, check your swap disk preferences. Mine would occasionally mysteriously reset and I’d have to change the first disk to D (my default) and so on. HTH

Another way to approximate this is to use Sapphire AutoPaint using the Van Gogh selection. Like Mark said, the cleaner the background the better the effect. I used moderate amounts of modification and while it wasn’t dark like the Schwab spot, you could still keep lip sync and it looked OK. The background I started with was bookshelves on a talking body, which because the background was static looked good. This plug-in takes a lot of playing with to get it to look right but it doesn’t take weeks to do.

I don’t know why you moved to NE Ohio (is that like up in Ashtabula?) but you are not that far from the major market of Akron/Canton and Cleveland. Your reel is a bit limited with your strengths being 3D animation and compositing, according to what I saw on your reel. You might want to check with some of the production and post production facilities in those markets. Freelancing for those companies would get your foot in the door while paying the bills. You might have to do a lot of door knocking to find a couple facilities who need your skills on a freelance basis. Hopefully you like football so the Browns organization and the Hall of Fame might also be choices who could use your skillset. Your academic abilities probably won’t influence an employer as much as a killer reel, so you might add some projects, shorten the ones you have on there, and tighten it up so it moves a little faster.

As Richard said, the sender could resend it with text as outlines, but I don’t think you need to do that unless it is that file that will go to the printers. The basic answer to your question is: don’t worry about the error message. Just save the file and keep going. If it looks OK it probably is OK. If it involved a corporate logo there would be a strong concern about having the right look. If you know the graphic looks fine for the T-shirt print then you’re done.

The link will take you to a free download of that font if you don’t already have it. Unzip the file and copy it to your system fonts folder. Stop and restart PS CS2 and it will show up. That would eliminate the error message. Photoshop doesn’t care if a mac or pc created the graphic as long as everyone involved knows what the image looks like.

Hi Paul

You’re getting some great advice from these guys. I can tell you are the entrepreneurial type, since you supplement your job with your ski wax business and wedding videography. My suggestion to you as an old guy (30+ years in the business) is to see if you can find some time to pursue that BS in Math. Even if it takes you six to eight years, what better use of your time is there than to get the kind of return that a BS in Math would give you? My son got a BSEE and started out making almost as much as I do. He worked a lot of overtime on his job with a defense contractor and is now back in school getting his MSEE with the money he saved. When he goes back to the real world he will undoubtedly make a lot more than I do. I love what I do in video and I make a decent living but I strongly suggest that you use your brainpower to get that degree and see what opens up for you.

With a BS in Math you could move up quickly at the company you work for. They might even help with college costs along the way. I’m sure with your skills and interests there would be several companies where the BS would open the door and then you could find something that fits several of your interests.

None of us are getting younger but you have established the ski wax and teaching business, so there will be the income from that if you maintain the relationships you have built there. You have established yourself in the wedding video field and can expand that with word of mouth by doing a great job for those whose weddings you shoot. My concern would be that you don’t overreach and try to do too much. Ultimately, however, you need to analyze your assets & priorities and decide what you want to do when you grow up 🙂 You have some great assets. I hope you’ll make the best of them.

Short of eCinema or Cinetal LCDs, both of which are very expensive, I’d look at 1920×1200 or 1920×1080 LCDs since they will also give you HDTV with a tuner, and larger display capabilities on the screen. SD video will look worse than HDTV because it is on the order of 6 times smaller.

You won’t really be able to calibrate these monitors because LCDs still have a way to go before many become critical enough for true color rendition. You can do that with the above mentioned monitors but you are paying for it dearly. There has been a lot of progress on LCDs but they aren’t WSYWYG yet. Test printing is the best way, though going through a lot of paper can get expensive. Once you see what your particular system is doing, you’ll be able to compensate.

Since you posted here I guess that you do have Photoshop.
If that is the case look at the filter pulldown and experiment on your picture. You may have to cut the house out of the surrounding background to be able to effect the filter so the help pulldown should help you figure out how to cut and paste. Learn all you can about layers. They allow you to do a lot in PS. Best of luck

I looks like DJ Strong is a layer of text that has a pattern overlaid. It comes out from the center to the edges of the text. Create your own texture, grab it as a pattern and overlay it on your text.

The light effects look like 3 airbrush dots with a angled brush filter added and then blended with the T-shirt from behind.

Experimenting is fun!

That info will be stored in my knowledge base for when I get my graphics computer back. It has been over a week and while Photoshop Elements 4 is a fine program, it lacks the finesse of PS CS3 and AI CS3.

I may have to start using the Mac after being on PC for 6 years. The Command key is in the wrong place 🙂 The future is moving to MacPro in our facility so I’d better get used to it. Thanks again.

I understand your position. I work for Charlotte Public Television but we avoided Chyron. I’d look for DVD tutorials or other after market products that provide individualized training. Also, go on the Chryon users forum and ask questions there. Your manuals may not be great but fighting you way through them will help you understand what the box is supposed to do. It will take time, but it can be done. Best of luck.
