Looking forward to finally being in between projects long enough to upgrade to 5.1.2 very soon.

This is top of my list of new stuff to play with!

    Thanks, Peter! Looks great!

Did you try putting it in the “other” font folder in the “other” Library?

If you have it in the Fonts folder Library on the MacintoshHD, try copying it to the Fonts folder in the Library in your User folder, or vice-versa.

I noticed in FCP 4.5 that there was a discrepancy on which Fonts folder was accessed between FCP, Boris & LiveType. I don’t recall which is which at the moment. I’ve just gotten into the habit of putting new fonts in both places and I stopped having to hunt for my fonts.

They may have addressed this since then, but try it!

(tip: I label my new fonts with a color from the View menu so the added fonts are easy to identify if I need to trash them)

Dang! I’m going to have to stop drinking ANYTHING when I read these boards!

You nearly had me nasally spewing Earl Gray all over my laptop!

    Very funny!

    Gee, Scott.

    I’m sorry.

All I meant to do was to help another editor make a transition and perhaps not have to go through some of the more frustrating things I encountered, or at least not go through them for as long.

We usually try to help one another here. I don’t know you, I don’t know your background. I was simply trying to help. It certainly wasn’t meant to be an “Avid vs. FCP” throwdown. At least not from my point of view.

It was meant to be helpful in the most best-intentioned of ways.

I’m truly sorry you took it the wrong way.

I second that. I was trained on Avid in the early ’90’s. FCP fruatrated the bejeebers out of me for years until I finally wised up and took the first certification course at a local training center a few years back.

It’s a night and day difference in how much easier I find working with FCP now than before. Trying to create Avid-like workarounds really defeats the strengths of FCP and will make you think it’s an inferior tool, instead of a different tool with it’s own strengths.

Now that I know both equally well, I find I like working on either one just fine, and I’m really in a good situation when I get to choose which tool is best for the type of project I’m working on.

Trying to force FCP to work like Avid is going to make you feel like you’re banging your head against a wall. Trust someone who still has dents in the forehead, it’s much better to learn FCP for it’s strengths, rather than trying to force it to do things in a way it wasn’t designed. That’s not fair to you, and espeically not fair to your clients.

Sure, there are plenty of things that I wish FCP did better, or just did, period. However, considering where we started, and how far it’s come in a relatively short time, it’s still pretty darn impressive, especially when you factor in the cost.

Did you try tossing it from the dock and replacing it with a new one? Just pick it up and drag it out of the dock and let go. Then go to your Applications folder and locate FCP. Pick it up and drag it down to the dock and let it go.

Just be careful that you don’t lose your hold on it and accidentally move it to the desktop. Then you’ll have to put it back.

    Pablito-

For your situation, I think the laptop would be a better fit initially. Just know that you won’t get the same speed as you would with a desktop, but you WILL get faster performance than what you’re used to, so it’s relative!

I don’t know about running Motion on an older CPU like that, upgraded graphics card or not. Sorry.

I opted for the tower first. The laptop came about six months later, when I started travelling. Both paid for themselves within months of purchase.

I am very happy for the speed of my tower when I need it, and very happy for the portability of my laptop when I need it.

I honestly don’t think I could go back to having just one, either one. Having two, I can multitask time-consuming chores. Plus, I’m not tempted to surf the internet or check email when I’m capturing or logging on the tower, since I have the laptop.

Yeah, having to buy two licenses for FCP back then was kinda spendy, but it’s been worth it. Although I understand that the license changed with FCP 5.1 and one is allowed to install on a tower and a laptop if one owns both. Is one allowed to run them simultaneously, though?

Is it Error 34, or Error -34? The negative sign makes all the difference.

-34 means your disk is full, and there is no place to put the files you are trying to create.

I don’t know what 34 means. Anyoone else?

You’ll have to play around with it, tsylla.

It’s unlikely that your specific hum will be removed with the default settings. It depends on the source of the hum, really. It’ll take some futzing.

Otherwise, look into Reduce Noise in SoundTrack Pro’s manual.
