Firmtek does make a 4-port SATA card:

I’m using one, along with a 2-port card. Keep in mind that if your SATA drives have SSC turned “on” it will not be compatible. Here’s a tech note from Firmtek:
Serial ATA Hard Drive Compatibility
Note: Early Hitachi Serial ATA hard drives are incompatible with the SeriTek/1VE4 Host Adapter. This is due to a seldom-used Serial ATA feature called SSC, which is enabled on these hard drives. The SeriTek/1VE4 does not support this feature. Newer model Hitachi Serial ATA hard drives should be compatible with SeriTek/1VE4.
At this time, the following Hitachi Deskstar hard drives have the SSC feature disabled, and are compatible with the SeriTek/1VE4 host adapter:
* Model 7K400 (400GB)

Another way is to find out what file format the Avid editor can use, then export the individual clips from the FCP project.
Send the clips on a bunch of DVD’s or on a portable Firewire drive.
The editor can then simply drag/drop the exported clips.

I’m using a Blackmagic Decklink SP card for output from FCP to a UVW-1800 via component, and am using the 422 controller cable that comes with it. I’m also using this setup as a reference output for all my color correction/grading and audio work.
My sequences for HGF are DV format since nearly all the material we currently shoot is in DVCam.
A/V device is set for Blackmagic NTSC, 8 bit (720×486)
Audio: Decklink Audio.Sequence preset is the stock “DV NTSC 48 kHz” preset.
Here’s my setup for the 1800:
Protocol: Sony RS-422
Audio Mapping: 2 channels
Time Source: LTC & VITC
Port: RS422 Deck Control
Frame Rate: 29.97Use deck search mechanism.
Capture offset: 0
Handle size: 00:00:00;00
Playback offset: +00:00;04Pre-roll: 5 seconds
Post-roll: 2 secondsHope this helps.

I routinely log and capture an entire tape in one solid chunk, and media managing that hasn’t been a problem… yet. After doing 40 1-hour programs, so far so good.
It was in a 30-second spot that I discovered the problem of capturing without timecode.
So ironically, it was the smallest project that caused the biggest problem.

If you have a Betacam deck, experiement with the timecode offset setting. That did the trick for me.

I’m guessing you’re working with George on his show?
If so, I had to do the same thing recently. FCP can do a frame-accurate insert of just the video, which is pretty much what we ended up doing.

As mentioned, you can use Media Manager to condense your project down to just the media being used.
But I recently discovered that if the media used was captured without time code — for example via an uncontrolled device — then media manager will not copy only the used media.
You’re then stuck with having to export each clip individually, or export the entire project as a single “flattened” movie file.
