I’m no expert on this, but 24PN by definition has no duplicate frames.

Make sure you’re getting your audio through the video card and not through the built-in audio of the Mac. The video card is designed to compensate for any delays of video delivery to your monitor, and ensure the audio remains in sync.

I was wondering how many P2 cards and/or P2 Stores were assigned to each shooter per day? And what format was being shot?

My reservation about the Firestore is the 4-pin connector at the camera. It’s a real potential problem unless there’s a way to secure it. Also, I’ve had instances where the Firestore either wouldn’t start recording or it wouldn’t stop recording. That would be a serious problem for news work.

I would suggest trying out the P2 system and seeing if it’s a good fit for what you’re planning to do. A lot of people have had good results with them, and there are also a number of people who have reported problems. But there isn’t a single complex system that doesn’t have its share of issues.

One of the nice things about shooting with the P2 card (and the Firestore) is the record-ahead feature. Imagine covering baseball and, rather than shoot every swing in hopes of catching that record-breaking at-bat, just wait until the bat actually connects before hitting the record button — and capturing the whole sequence from the pitch to the hit.

And then imagine hitting the record button and the Firestore failing to start running as it should…!

Rather than add keyframes in levels, I cut up the music track, set the music under the voiceover at the appropriate levels, then drop crossfade transitions to smoothly ramp the music from one level to the next.

The advantage of doing it this way is it’s much easier to adjust the timing of each fade-down ad the crossfades are easily shifted, and I can make corrections en masse by selecting all the appropriate sections and making changes with the “gain adjust” menu item: Modify-Levels (opt-cmd-L)

Thanks, Barry. I figured out the workaround with Disk Utility. As Panasonic points out, it happens with the laptops but generally not with the tower Macs.

Looks like P2 Genie will be a necessary investment.

Also, it looks like it handles the problem where all the partitions have the same “NoName” label?

The info on P2 Genie’s website lacks detail, but apparently it’s able to either re-label or sequentially label each partition when copying the P2 Store’s contents over to a Mac-based storage system?

Does P2 Genie solve the occasional problem where the first partition of the P2 Store fails to mount? Or is that something that has to be dealt with via Apple’s Disk Utility?
