  • FCP 5.1.2 P2 Import bug SOLVED

This is so simple it makes me smack my head. Who knows why I didn’t try this in the first place. Here I am jumping thru hoop after hoop trying to update the firmware on the camera (which I did, BTW…I’ll blog about how to do that later, and link to the file you need as it was a bitch to track down) and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT.

    Are you ready? Set?

Turn off the REMOVE DUPLICATE FRAMES option in the P2 Import preferences.

That’s it. That simple. Once I did that all of the clips from card 1 imported just fine…when previously only 4 out of 10 would import. I didn’t think about it because I didn’t find that option until recently. And I didn’t think it was the solution until it was suggested that I uncheck it, then try again. When I did…boom. Success.

Anyone else have issues with this version of FCP? Lemme know if this fixes it, or DOESN’T fix it as well.

I’m sorry, Shane, but what was the problem you were having? I’m assuming that you were trying to import 24pN footage and had the “Remove Duplicate Frames” option turned on? Is that it? I haven’t run into any problems but I like to try to be forewarned with situations like this. I know what it’s like to spend 3-days trying to get something to work and then you come to find that the machine just wasn’t plugged in. Please let me know.

    This was my issue:

    https://lfhd.blogspot.com/2007/01/p2-import-with-512-is-busted.html

When I tried to import P2 media into FCP 5.1.2, a majority of them would come up with an error…CORRUPT MEDIA. But when I imported the footage with FCP 5.1.1, they imported fine. So the media wasn’t at fault, it was FCP 5.1.2. I wasn’t alone. While many could, many others could not. I was tracking down what I thought was the issue, which was the firmware version of the camera. People not having this issue had firmware 2.03, and since we bought the first cameras available on the West Coast, we had 1.03. I was in the middle of upgrading the camera’s firmware when I tried importing with the REMOVE DUPLICATE FRAMES turned off, and bingo…they imported fine.

    Shane…

I’m no expert on this, but 24PN by definition has no duplicate frames.

Don’t feel badly, but the obvious sometimes escapes me, too.

That’s why it is so flippin’ obvious. Sometimes we want the solutions to be complex.

    Gah.

Well, thanks for the heads up. It’s something I certainly would have overlooked.

Shane, Buddy, I hate to point this out to you, but I offered that suggestion a couple of times and you said you had tried it already.

    You mean when you said:

“Shane, have you tried turning off the remove pulldown preference and selecting the encompassing folder and not the CONTENTS folder?”

I thought I had. I think I looked in the wrong place…or did the wrong thing. Or was frustrated and just went “yeah yeah, I did that…I know what to do because I am a smarty-pants.”

So you had the solution. And I feel like an idiot. This is what you get when you think you know everything.

    Shane…

If I were involved in documenting the re-creation of the Mexican-American War using some of the most cutting-edge technology around, I’d feel a little knowledgeable myself!

Oh man, it’s all good. Glad you are up and running smoothly again!

I didn’t want to tell you that I checked the firmware on the p2 cams that I use a lot, and it was 1.03. I figured it wasn’t the firmware, but who the hell knows. I was hoping it’d fix your problem. You know, it usually boils down to one little switch.

Well, I had to upgrade the firmware anyway…for the 16GB cards.

Not that we are getting one. We have 8 4GB cards.
