Oh, Very important light your screen one f-stop below the F of your subject.

When you trasfer the film to Video use a Non – interlaced format..

When you get it in after effects don’t just pull the blue and replace it also create a matt – that is pull the blue and then go to transform the layer to a alpha matte then scale up by a pixel or two and use this over your composite to bend the light around your blue screen subject. that is create a feel that he is more in the enviroment then just placing him over a back ground will do … Trish and Chris Meyer have a great tutorial in their book ..After effects in Production to teach you how to do this..

Also add a drop shadow to the subject matter once you pull the blue … other wise (It) Will seem not to have a shadow… sorry its a pet peave.

Also do this in 3D mode so you can add a light that will effect both your subject adn the new background… reason … it evens their textures out a bit…

Thank you. . . Just as a side bar, once the expression is entered will the pixel rate be displayed in the value menue under position or if not where should it be display?

Create the two seperate images as two seperate layers … activate the 3d opption, the little box icon on each layer.line all the postion values up to match exactly. Then, make an adjustment of one pixel in the ‘Z’ position. Now one layer is “behind” the other in the 2.5 D area. Next create a null layer under new layers menu, in your comp pull down menu. Parent each of the two original layers to the null layer. Now rotate the null as you wish to rotate the card…

    *quicker easier more suductive..*
((If you don’t feel like futsing around with a NULL, though I highly recomend learning all you can of them. . . the other option is to Pre-comp the seperate layers into one layer and then activate 3-D for the precomp. . . once Precomped scale the new layer to the size you want the card and rotate.))

thanks, I will check the handles, But I don’t understand how the motion path handles would of been activated since I typed in the values and didn’t drag the layer along a motion path. I mean obviously it is possable, since entering the values on the key pad, generated a motion path, but . . . ?

  • I discovered this while getting pissy about the layer not dupicating when I told it too .. Turns out the Comand D was duplicating a highlighted mask within the layer instead… (Had like 30 of the same mask)

try comand D to duplicate the original mask, until the mask is over laying – then cut Command X (as if you didn’t know) the mask out of the layer highlight the next layer you want the mask on and paste . . . repeat until all the layers you want the mask on now have it.. then simply precomp them all together and add them to the other layers without the mask . . . If that doesn’t work buy some jolt cola, and get ready for a long night.
