Okay here is the thing I am tyingto creat movement along astreight line, so I created two key frames one at teh begining of the move and one at the end leaving the valueof the horizantal position the same 576.5 at each key frame. and changing the vertical position Vlue only. However as I scroll throughteh time line the horizontal postion value changes, diverges down to at its lowest 575.3 and then returns to 576.5 by the second key frame . . . while it’s only a – 1.2 pixels of veriation …. in the pro – world this is an unexceptable dip in value. at least for this perfectionist. Why is it happening? and what can I do to counter it.
    Thank you in advance. dayv

Zoom in on the position marker in the comp window and be sure the motion track is straight. Sometimes a “handle” appears unintentionally and it can cause a variation in motion though the keyframes have the same x or y value. Hope that makes sense.

    Hi,

You may want to look carefully at the motion path on screen to see if the handles at each end have bezier control handles that have been pulled up or down. Go to your first key frame and look at it’s start point on screen. Sometimes the handle can be hard to see, so you should look carefully. (I don’t know if there is a way to make the handles stand out – perhaps with a contrasting color – if so this could help you find them.)

Anyway, if you align the handle straight along the motion path, it should not dip. You will need to do this for all key frames.

I think there is another thing that can cause this problem, but I can’t remember it. I think it has to do with keyframe interpolation. If anyone else has any useful suggestions, please chime in.

    Hope this helps.

thanks, I will check the handles, But I don’t understand how the motion path handles would of been activated since I typed in the values and didn’t drag the layer along a motion path. I mean obviously it is possable, since entering the values on the key pad, generated a motion path, but . . . ?

Make sure you are using linear keyframes and not auto-bezier or continuous which I think is what the other posts are getting at:

Click on the keyframes in the TIMELINE. With the keyframes selected, go to the Animation menu > Keyframe Interpolation… Make sure that spatial interpolation is set to LINEAR.

    That should do it
